Hot hot hot !!!! 80xx projects

Post by frenchie » Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:26 am

Hi all,

Anyone else seeing high GPU temps on 80xx WUs ? Well, you're not alone !!

http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=20878

I'm seeing around 6-7 degree hotter temps on the GTX460 and the GTS450.
It's just enough to give the fan a really annoying tone on the 460.... grrrrr... Time to finally get the cooling project going on that backup/folding machine :) ... now, where is that dremel...

Yeah, I've been getting these on my dual 560ti system. I noticed the fans ramp up, had to downclock one about 10%, and the system is still burning about 50 more watts. On the bright side, both are up about 25% ppd, so I think in total I'm up another 9k to 10k ppd. So, it's not so bad. :)

Quick update : I noticed just a few days ago that my ppd was down more than it should be... I checked the stats in GPU tracker and the GPU that is hooked up to my screen has been failing pretty much every single 803x WU after a just a few % (3-5) !!!

So I reset the overclock on it but nothing changed, it was still failing miserably. Interestingly, I have the exact same video card folding happily, and overclocked, in the same machine. The driver I was using was 260.99.

I pocked around the web, and it seems that this is a known issue that is fixed by the 301.24 nvidia beta driver. Sure enough, since I installed those drivers (yesterday), all WUs have completed successfully !

It's not perfect, sometimes IE lags a little. I have to look around a bit more to see if this can be fixed.

I any of you has issues with drivers and/or the latest WUs I suggest you try the 301.24 drivers.

Hope that helps !
