Graphical Production Comparison - SPCR vs MacOSX

Ok, been playing with this over at Arachnid stats, now to see how well it displays here. Also curious to see if it updates.

Be sure to look at the color legend for each graph, it doesn't always stay consistent.

Cool. So you're saying these should remain current? These graphs are calculated each time they are displayed?

Just a bump in the road huh?

If ya look at the image code, it looks like these are dynamically updated from his stats pages each time they're loaded. Wonder how much load we'll add to his server?

If I find some other interesting setups I'll edit them in.

Nice one Zyzzyx.

Could/should we (obviously not me  ) make this one a sticky?

I'd like to see this made 'sticky' for as long as this remains a close race. MikeC?

Edit: I send MikeC a PM requesting this.

interesting...

Hello:

I find it interesting that all the major peaks and valleys occur in *both* teams' graphs. But the general overall slope is different. I would have to guess that those peaks and valleys would correspond with the performance of the servers over at Folding@Home.

I wish it were possible to see a longer period of time. In particular I would love to see their production from about a week before the optimized Gromacs core was released October 31, to today. Team MacOS X came out of NOWHERE, and overtook us at a ferocious rate, but looking at the graphs, you just don't see that. And it's not just THEIR production, but OURS. I doubt they have "slacked off" any, I think we just accellerated to match pace with them.

NeilBlanchard:
Actually it is an explaination for that. If you look at the stats for all teams, they all have the same dips and peaks. Some are caused by servers at stanford going down, while most are caused by easy/difficult proteins being distributed.

Can't let any bastardized BSDs catch us. I'm doing my part! *squatch, squatch* take that colorful bugs!

Know thy enemy. Bastardised BSD's? That is nice.

I really do like the charts though. Wish I knew a bit more about stats and charting to do something similar. May stop in from time to time to see what the current trend is.

It was nice to see you guys coming to visit us so I decided to return the favor. We have plenty of tips on how to make computers fold faster, even on windows. Feel free to drop by and take a look.

This should be a good rivalry, really get the blood going when for some it is a "religious" war.

Plutz, sure, why not? All I see is that Team MacOS X seems to have a fixation with a close-up view of our backsides.

Ditto!

New members are where this response must come from, and I see that we do, in fact, have several new members. :D

Argh. And me with my newly borged machines stuck on tinkers for the moment! Almost time to boot up those 286s and 386s again ;)

Choy, Tinkers are just "the price of admission". I think every new machine gets a few Tinkers to start with because nobody wants them and everyone has -advmethods specified, so they give them out to "the new guys". This is just my own private theory, but it has seemed to work that way for me.

Hey haysdb and All !
I have 13 WU running on 7 Macs with 8 G4s and a G3
One is a sTinker , and haysdb had asked how the macs do folding , so , here goes:

Model: Gigabit Ethernet Dual G4 @ 450 MHz Built July '00 thru Jan '01
Running 3 concurrent WU:
Gromacs p849 32 points 0.587 PPH
Gromacs p845 32 points 0.585 PPH
Tinker p639 70.9 points 0.143 PPH :(
Folding only , except to demo iTunes full screen video effects for ~5 min today ( Use your own calculator :D )

Model: QuickSilver Dual G4 @ 1.33 GHz ( CPU Upgraded ) Built July '01 thru Jan '02
Running 4 concurrent WU:
Gromacs p914 29.7 points 0.906 PPH
Gromacs p845 32 points 1.522 PPH
Gromacs p922 31 points 1.421 PPH
Gromacs p920 36.6 points 1.179 PPH
PPH total = 5.028 , PPD = 120.672 , PPW = 844.704
The QS is the one I've been on most of the day with inet, e-mail , a little iTunes ( Dark Side of the Moon once thru ) , but no Heavy apps , so It could do ~ 5% better !

Fold On !
Pluts :D

Pluts,

Does the G4 implement something analogous to Hyperthreading, where the CPU appears to the OS as two "logical" cpu's? What advantage have you found in running multiple WU's per cpu?

Second question. Your signature reads "MacOS X 1971", but the first Mac was introduced in 1984. "1984 won't be like 1984." And of course, MacOS X has only been out for what, a couple of years?

1971 is our Team number registered at Stanford - you know, like yours is 31574 or some such odd, nonsense number. Fold on!

YEAH! Got that nice up-slope going now! Much better now that my borgs have turned in their Tinkers... I've got one or two machines spitting out WU with no team designation! I'm home sick from work today or else I could find it right away...

Tomorrow I should get it straightened out. Too bad already four units have gone to waste (no team credit!)

Maybe Macs don't like Tinkers. We have overproduced them for the last hours and now we're ahead in PPW.

GO SPCR, we'll keep them away!!

They claim that their Macs don't choke on the Tinkers, but I think they have just as many PCs as we do. (And PCs don't like Tinkers...) They know that PCs are a much cheaper way to fold.

Last but not Least , if you read my last post , you can see a Mac Choke on a tinker! :D :D
Shall I push the Line ? Risk it all for a mere bit of Humor ? Certainly !
You Seem to be Repeating yourself randy , Reposting if you will.
are your Keys bouncing ? Or is your PC so loud you have to yell and repeat to be heard ? :D :D
( I better Quit While I Still Can )

Pluts :D :D

We Do Have A FEW .... A Bunch ..... A Lot Of PC's Folding for Us , we Welcome all Who Fold !
( and a few who don't )
