Hi there - first post.

I recently (last night) finished a rebuild of my computer to try to quiet it down.

In a nutshell, I took my Core 2 Duo based computer out of a P150 case and put it into a P182b. I replaced an OCZ GameXstream 600W PSU with a Corsair HX 520.

I'm going to put a post in General Gallery with some pictures of the work I did to move the computer to the new tower.

Of the most interest is what I did with my Scythe Ninja revB - I remounted it using a ThermalRight LGA775 Bolt-through kit. Big difference in temps, but beware - I had a heck of a time bolting it down!

Can I ask if the case move helped reduce the noise? (trying to ignore the psu swap if possible!)

I'm actually looking to go the other way from a p180 (ok not quite a 182,but hey...early adopter!) to a p150 mostly for case size reasons.

Not sure if thats a good idea or not!

My mistake - I switched from an Antec SOLO, not a P150. Same case but black, and no PSU.

As to your question: Tough to say. The new setup is definately quieter - but that is mostly to do with the new power supply.

One thing I can say though is that my old PSU was really loud when the fans ramped up, and they ramped up all the time, since all the CPU heated air was sucked into the PSU intake.

In the P182, I don't have that problem since the PSU and CPU are on opposite sides. That might be a source of noise for you...

I was going to say, that the case cannot "make" a computer quieter; only help you make it quieter. In fact, with it's HD suspension, the Solo may be the better case for some machines.

I must agree with Neil on this one. But that goes eitherway. Where the Solo/P150 has HDD suspension, the P18x has a PSU tunnel and more place for fans.

Yes, of course, I realize that.

For me, the Solo was too small - it felt cramped, and even with good cabling there didn't seem to be good airflow. The OCZ PSU heated up very quickly, and drowned any fans I had (Yate Loons) right away.

I bought the Seagates before I realized how loud they were; I bought 3 to put in a Raid5 setup. I now want to move them out to a seperate home server computer...but I don't have the money or time yet.

The Antec Solo was cramped when you consider the 4 drives, the 8800GTS and the non-modular power supply.

When I switched to the P182 I put the raptor in a Nexus enclosure and screwed it into the case. Its idle noise is pretty low now but I can hear its seeks loud and clear. So I think I will ditch the case and manually suspend the raptor in a 5.25" bay.
