DDR2 power consumption: 2*1GB vs 4*1GB vs 2*2GB ?

Post by kinotix » Thu Oct 04, 2007 4:13 am

Hello,

Have anyone tested the impact of different memory configurations in the overall power consumption?

I'm particulary wondering what could be the difference between using:
2*1GB (2 sticks)
4*1GB (4 sticks)
2*2GB (2 sticks)

Also, do latencies or bus speed have any impact in the power consumption?

ddr2 takes 1-2W per stick, insignificant in context of total system consumption. overclocking the RAM will increase power consumption.

Correct. Go with two sticks, either 1gb or 2gb.
