After missing out on a cheap new laptop on Black Friday (I guess getting up at 4AM is too late...), I was curious to see what everyone was hoping to get this season. I debated about asking for a complete upgrade (core 2 duo) but thought it might be a bit much to ask considering the family helped with my Athlon X2 upgrade last year.

Now I'm having trouble coming up with ideas and thought you guys could help.
Here are some of the things on my list:
Netgear Gigabit 5-port switch
CAT5/6 crimpers
Shure E3c canalphones
Porter-Cable 690 Router
Case Logic 320 CD/DVD Nylon Case
So what do YOU want for the holidays?

Out of those five, I'd go for the headphones... but this is what I'd ideally like for the holidays:

What, so any country that doesn't slobberingly worship the ground that America walks on has no right to exist? (apart from Israel, weird inclusion in this group) That's the typical arrogant American attitude.
Ahmadinejad was rightly condemned for saying Israel should be wiped off the map, I don't see how this comment is any different.

Wow, didn't expect this thread to become a stage for political commentary...I just wanted to see what random things people wanted.
I’m torn between either a new pair of slippers or world peace.
I gotta say, I'd go for the slippers. World peace definitely wouldn't last as long as your new slippers would.
Something else I'll add to the list...
2G Flash Drive (my 512 just doesn't cut it anymore)

Some of the stranger things on my list are a bicycle trailer and a chef hat.
Other than that, a WD5000KS would go down nicely, I don't know what I'll do with the extra 440GB of harddrive space that I don't really need, but I'm sure I'll find a use.

I want to see the Pope on TV openly admitting that that "Jesus Christ" was actually the son of the "Flying Spaghetti Monster" and that God does not actually exist.

1) a 5 cm longer Solo XL, which could accomodate a 8800 GTX - but I know it won't happen so soon.
2) a Sony SXRD 50" LCoS - but it's VERY expensive and not available in my country, so I'll settle for a 29" Panasonic CRT TV.
3) don't want world peace, since that would imply the extinction of the human race in the first place.

The quote is based on a true story that I heard on the radio. Various diplomats were being asked what they wanted for Christmas and most of them came up with worthy things such as World Peace, except for the British Ambassador who was split between slippers or a pipe.

Very sensible of him; at least his wish had a faint chance of coming true.

Hey, I'm getting slippers for Christmas.

Footwear aside, I'd like a complete overhaul of the U.S. Government system, Muslim extremists to be less extreme, and people to take responsibility for their actions.
Oh, an for all of your computers to be silent.

Even if you get the latter it would only last a moment, so go for the slippers.
All I want is to slow dance with Jeri Ryan.

Is tha based on US Intelligence or what's left of it after the repubs have massaged the data?

fmriguy, if you get the E3Cs (good headphones, those) be careful if you have pets, especially dogs. See, things that go in your ears start to collect earwax, and something nasty like that is naturally irresistibly tasty to dogs. I had my pair for only seven weeks...
As for what I want for Christmas, well...how about a bachelor's degree? No, I have to
work for those!?!?! Ok, maybe an 8800GTX and a Reserator to cool it quietly.

I'd go for the Porter Cable 690, or up it to the 890 (which I personally have). If you already have a table saw and some electrical knowledge, you can learn to design and build your own high-fidelity loudspeakers, as I have been doing for the last 7 years. The router is used with a spiral-saw bit and circle jig to cut perfect circular holes, as well as to create the counter-bore for recessing the speaker drivers.
Forget the earbuds unless you already have a great set of speakers. I don't like putting things in my ears for sound -- I like to be pummeled by waves of it from the outside. You'll never experience the visceral effect of deep bass from a set of earbuds.

I want... people to stop referring to Christmas as "the holidays". The holidays... nudge nudge, wink wink! It's inane.

1) a 5 cm longer... err I saw that earlier in this thread..
I might treat myself to a Canon Powershot S3 IS camera, bridging the gap between my current semi compact A70 and an eventual SLR just fine... 12x zoom, decent functions, stabilization.. yeah baby!
