Everything in my sig. Both 24/7 and main rig got slight update (24/7 got new case, new pico PSU, Scythe Quiet Drive upgrades, and main rig got just scythe drive, but overall ideas are still the same).

Going to update main rig with budget C2D this week though. Motherboard will be very cheap one, but it still should be faster than my current system and have 2 cores. That should be able to carry me through the end of the year when intel releases 45nm CPUs.

Specs in sig. I use my laptop most of the time (since I'm not at home most of the time), but when I'm at home, the PIII is my pride and joy... :D

Specs in sig.

It may be 3 years old but it's still more than enough computing power for anything I've ever run across. It's basically dead quiet too, so I have absolutely no interest in upgrading.

You'd be surprised how much faster C2D is over old P4. I did some RAR tests before deciding to jump over. Even the lowest end C2D on a via motherboard outperformed my 3.4GHz P4C + i865.

I used rar "best" method to compress 4GB file, if my memory serves me right
3.4GHz P4C took 75 minutes to compress
6300 C2D took 62 minutes to compress
6600 C2D took 40 minutes to compress

So even the lowest C2D possible was still faster than my old trustworthy P4. And 4300 which should be about just as fast as 6300 has two cores instead of one, so it should be twice as responsive when multitasking compared to P4 (I miss the days when I had SMP machine). Couple it with the fact that it's a decent overclocker, it's a no-brainer. Of course it all depends on how you use your computer, my P4 isn't terribly slow either, but I would definitely appreciate speed bump.

EDIT: got my numbers wrong, but overall result is still the same

See my sig. As a note, I only have one Seagate in there right not. (RAID is noisy!!) Pentium D runs at stock speeds, and X1950 Pro, is OC'ed to 640/1460. (can't get any higher! :x )

Because I work from home and travel a lot, my "main rig" is currently a laptop. It's a Pentium-M 2.0 GHz with 2GB of ram, running XP Pro. Since I exclusively develop software with this computer, it works pretty well. It has integrated graphics, so gaming is out of the question, but the 2 gigs of RAM makes VS.NET a pleasure.

I have a secondary box running an Athlon64 3000+, 1 GB RAM, S12-330, SLK3000B, and a passive nVidia 7600GS. That box is currently running Vista, although I have second and third drives with XP and Ubuntu installs.

Ralf@System 1: P4 2.4C, Intel 875PBZ, Scythe Ninja + 5V Nexus
Wow, I'm amazed a 5V Nexus is enough cooling for a 2.4 Northwood in toasty SoCal; what are your temps like?

Depending on ambient, idle in the mid to high 30's, load in mid to high 50's.

Specs in my sig... but I'm also using my laptop for programming. It's an Asus laptop, with a "true" Pentium 4 2.67GHz, 1GB DDR and a 40GB Toshiba HDD.
