Looks pretty good for the price.

The 4GB version is supposed to be $200, 8GB is $300.

what remains to be seen:

1) did they cheap out badly somewhere? Like, on the soundcard, making it no t as good as an ipod (or any other laptop)

2) Is it fanless

3) does it whine

4) can I put windows on it

I read on another site that it is Windows XP compatible. I'm not sure about Vista, though. Also keep in mind it doesn't come with an optical drive, so you'd need an external USB drive to install the OS.

I don't know about noise. Might have to wait for an SPCR review. :)

The only thing I'm worried about is build quality. I agree that for $200 they must be skimping somewhere, and this seems like the most logical place to cut costs. Hopefully the thing is at least halfway sturdy.

I think it will be fairly robust... though like any laptop you cant just shove it in a non padded bag.

Maybe the LCD is awful :/

EDIT: who in their right mind would put vista on this? Hello 512MB!

I don't suppose Asus would make a bigger battery for it and make some parts modular so we can swap in new ones??

I think that would put ultraportables that have ultraprices at high risk...

Which is what we need. I'm tired of manufacturers charging an arm and a leg for something that's SMALLER. I don't need that big of a screen, I don't need an integrated DVD ROM drive. Just give me something that runs preppy - I only need it for school.

Hmm I've been looking around on Google and have been seeing some conflicting information. Some sites claim the $200 model will be 2GB, some say it's 4GB. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Also I've read there's supposed to be a model with 10" screen.

I'm interested in this laptop as well. My current Dell Inspiron is overkill for college duties, and it'd be nice to have something smaller and lighter (and cheaper, in case of theft).
