Where are you & how did you get your forum name?

When I was a kid I'd sleep over at friends' house and have pillow fights. My pillow was so hard it was described as a bag of bricks. Everyone started calling it the Widowmaker and somehow that stuck onto me.

Edit: I just realized I forgot Asia in the poll. D'oh. Are there any mods out there who can add it in? That'd be great. Thanks.

A long time ago, I was signing up for a number of forums. I needed a name that was unique, not too ridiculous, and forgettable. I spend a while thinking and then looked out the window.

An extremely long time ago (must be nigh on 8 years now) I started playing a browser-based online game. I named my character Bob Roberts, because the double-naming amused me. When I decided to sign up for some forum or another, I tried to find a way to modify that character name to my forum name. I ended up choosing Crazybob, and for simplicity and consistency, I've used that name on the majority of the forums I've ever signed up for.

Forum name is just a concatenation of my names...rather boring I know but I usually suck at coming up with witty nicknames

12 years ago, i stole this nickname from the bassist of a now defunct band called "furnaceface"...

... until I started dating Nea, and one of our mutual friends went home and was talking about 'Nea and Joe'.

I have no idea. Its my usual forum name and is easy because ive yet to see a "sorry, this name is already taken" message. My real name isnt even Bob, and i dont fart more than the regular person either.

Seraphim (from the bible) looks nice as a nick and has a nice sound to it when pronounced (imo) so i took that and altered it a little to not be like one of the 234543523456 using that particular nick already.

My first name + first letter of my Surname.

I also took the naming scheme from God, but I missed the capitals (can I change that/have it changed? ).

Was assigned to me when I dialed and called into my first ever BBS in 1979 via an Atari 400 and a 110 baud acoustic coupler. First initial, last name. I've just used it ever since. <shrug>

Found this to be a nice name, rolls off the tongue. Seems to be unique as well, so I've stuck to it since the LAN parties I went to in the 90s.

Back in the days, I was in one of the first internet cafÃ©s in town. I went to a chatroom, because I heard that chatting is Ã¼ber cool (in fact, I found out quickly that it isn't). I needed a nickname, so I turned my head around and I saw an ad for maxell videotapes. Using a brand name as a nickname is pretty lame, I thought, so I just changed a letter. That nick sticks to me since the mid-90s, and I use it in every forum which I write in.

I got my nickname in the late 90's.

A friend of mine had problems with a PC for several days.
It just wouldnt work and testing the parts separately showed that nothing was wrong with the parts.

I went to his place to help him out.
Told him to press the power button and.... it booted up !
He said it must have been my great aura that made it come alive.

And the rest of my nickname.... well you can probably guess where I got that from.

My parents and everyone else called me "Trip" as a nickname, and it's what people still call me today.

It's a common nickname in either Britain or the Southern US... I forget which.

I often go by "Frank" in some forums, which is my real first name.

well, ages and ages ago (well, more like, 9 years ago) when i created my screenname on AIM, i pulled out a dictionary, opened to a page, and saw the word "bonestone" which actually means moron. but i decided to add a second "n" to it because it just looked better.

another nickname i have on other forums was just on a whim...10thwonderoftheworld. because being the 8th is selfish..like i want to be the next one. it just turned into 10th after a while...so that's another nickname i have.

Plissken = Snake Plissken, character in "Escape from New York". I'm a movie buff and like to use interesting and obscure names from my favorites, and even not-so-favorites. I use these names for forums I don't intend to frequent, but SPCR is great and I don't like to change names, so I'm stuck with it.
Plissken is one of my favorite nicks though.
Later I discovered there's an "SD Plissken" here on SPCR, created before mine, whoops

I bet his story is more interesting.

Somewhere in the late nineties I decided to find out what all this chat stuff was all about. I was a bit drunk, came up with a name, and reversed it. This ended up being murtoz (mur for short), and like some other people here say, I've never seen a message that the name was taken... Oh and no, the name I actuall came up with wasn't zotrum...
