We obviously have different definitions about what constitutes a "large" sedan :D

well some on the list are larger than others... the huge LUXURY sedans are in a class of their own and cost about double the ones on this list... the ones here should still be considered big i think, because all the brands carry smaller sedans also... like the BMW 5-series isn't that big, but it's still bigger than the 3-series that competes with volvo's S40 and audi's A4 in stead of S80 and A6... and so on.

but i guess big's relative... i live in finland, and really didn't even consider the huge american cars. we have short roads and bad weather, which they dont like so much.

Personally, I would go with something Japanese. In the US, at least, they're much cheaper, more reliable, and have better specs. If you want a luxury one, then why not a Lexus? :)

Out of those options, though, I voted for the Beemer. Even as a person who will probably stick to Japanese cars for a while, I've always wanted a late-90's 5-series, hehe.

The prices vary too much: the Saab and Volvo are the cheapest, about € 38,000.
The A6 and BMW 5 are about € 45,000.
C6 and Mercedes are about € 52,000.

The Jaguar S is about a whopping € 60,000, but the newer model looks really good. The XF for € 68,000. That's € 30,000 more than the Saab or the Volvo...
I think I'll stick to a second hand Toyota.

Get the XF over the S, its worth it.

Or just buy a proper sports car for the same money. Buy the Lotus Elise, you know you want it.

Seriously though if your going to go big sedan then look 2nd hand, people are ditching these big cars for cheap. In Oz you can get a 2003 V8 Jag S class for ~20k.

If your going to buy new then just buy the small/medium hatch back. A four door Honda Jazz (Fit in USA) does everything you want and uses little fuel. Theres even a 7 seater version in Japan that is a little but longer ~5" but no boot when in 7 seat mode.

Has MB recovered from their lapse in quality? Doesn't matter, too expensive to fix any German cars. The E Class is solid, but the C Class?

Mercedes has "paint options" over $1500 US. Paint options? I'll pay something extra for clear coat, otherwise paint on cars is on occasion standard equipment.

I'll take any Lexus, that way I determine if/when I have to go back to the dealer. Also - Your car is not faster than a Lexus when it's up on a lift.

That's why God invented Vredestein tires. 8)

Citroen! Unfortunately, you'll have to pay a driver to take you places if you don't want to look silly in it. Unless you attach rocket launchers and such like nonsense to it. Then you still look silly, but the many kilotons of ordinance will shut the critics up. :D

If I had to stay with your brands and general sizes based on what I've had an opportunity to see in person and/or drive I'll take an Audi S8 - but only if someone else wants to pay for it :D

I'd rather have a Dodge Charger SRT8. I can't realistically afford most of those (though the Charter SRT8 is probably $40K before discounts). I can put the kids in the Charger and it's still got a 400+ HP.

Very, *very* politicly incorrect but the Audi S8 V10... just listen to the sound of the same engine of a Lamborghini Gallardo...

I like that it is a "sleeper", no one will suspect anything big or grand - it just looks like a big business car, a sedan.... Until you press the gas more than an inch, I guess.

Or an Audo W12 (come on, if Jason Statham is driving one it can't be all bad, it's got to be cool) - in electronic version.

I know I've grown up a bit (the energy savings really work: 2 km per liter more! - 10 to 15 % less fuel consumption), but still I'm a kid at heart, and I love Top Gear.... .. .

I like the Charger, though the SRT might be overkill. I'm looking forward to seeing what the new Challenger is going to be like.

Whine: No Bently on the list.

That's what I want because not only does it have plenty of power, I can also get the armour security kit for it.

Out of those i´d have the C6. It´s just so much more interesting than the other cars. I´ve driven this years models of the A6 and V70, which is essentially a S80 estate. Also been a passenger in 9-5s quite a lot, and also a bit in a new C5 with the fancy suspension. And several taxis, so 5-series and E-class are also somewhat familiar. The E-class just isn't as good as it should be, and i would rather have the 5.

Volvo has the most comfortable seats, and the C5 with upgraded seats is second and Saab is probably third. The sport seats in the A6 were too hard but nice otherwise. MB has the worst seats, BMW sport seats are good, the stock ones are like flat benches just like MB.

And the only modern Mopar "muscle-car" that's available here is the 300C, no Charger or Challeger. No Camaro or Mustang for that matter either, or you can get the Mustang imported but it costs somewhere around 75.000€. The 300C SRT8 is around 100.000€ which quite a lot to be honest.

So are you going to purchase one, or is this a fantasy thread?

Fantasy thread. Im not looking for a big sedan, more in the lines of A3, 118 3-door hatches... The C6 is probably the best choice if looking for a relaxing, quiet and smooth car, and probably the worst if looking for performance and sharp handling. It's most likely also the worst in terms of depreciation. I might be silly enough to choose it over an A6 for example, but then again i have never claimed to be an especially rational person.

People today are anti-sleeper, as in bling. Loud and obnoxious is the way to be, ask any harley rider.

Does Citroen still use the hydraulic suspension?

Yes the fancy suspension is available on the C5 and C6. Standard on the C6 and an option on the C5 i believe. And a very nice system it is, i might add.

Of the ones posted, I would choose the SAAB.

Of the ones not posted, I would choose a 1956 Chevy Nomad, or a Jaguar E-type if it's gotta be a little newer.

All the modern "big sedans", esp. Beamers and Porsches, can go take a swim in the river for all I care.
