IE7 random freezes

Post by Stephen » Wed Feb 04, 2009 3:30 pm

I have IE7. It will randomly freeze every several times over the course of a couple of hours. THere isn't any pattern to the websites. I have Vista Home Premium. Currently I hve NIS 2009, but I had KIS 2009 prior and had the same IE7 issues.

I googled and found a variety of posts about this, but no solution. Any ideas?

You could try Google's Chrome browser. It is much more secure. Usually, individual pages or plugins crash but that'll only take down the plugin or page where it happened.

As "Vertigo" says try another browser, I would suggest Firefox myself, but anything other than IE is worth a shot.

If you are still having problems with freezing etc, then its not your browser. The only way to go with fault finding like that is to start with ruling out the fault itself, in this case, by using a different browser.

I should have have been more clear. I don't have this problem in Firefox. THis is IE7 specific.

Aaaah.

If, IE7 is like IE6 then you are screwed if you want to fix this, otherwise stick with another browser and ignore IE7.

I have seen IE6 dozens of times that has been broken by viruses and malware so badly that it can only be fixed by a full windows re-install. This problem simply occurs because of how MS (the twats) integrated IE into windows at a deep level. You cant actually remove it by uninstalling it (likewise MS Messenger) and re-installing it/updating it with patches often doesnt work.

I have avoided Vista enough to not know whether IE7's integration is as bad as IE6's integration within XP is/was. If so, you may be left with only 2 choices, re-install, or just dont use IE.

Something to try though would be to browse the net for a couple of hours using "safe mode with networking", this will disable all security software and 3rd party software that may be interfering.

This of course is a severe security risk if you want to go pornsurfing, you could of course spend a couple of hours swatting on Wiki in the ultra low resolution provided by "safe mode" and be 99% safe (so long as you are using a router, and not a direct connection to the net).

Random and frequent IE7 crashes (maybe once every 2-3 hours of browsing, which by my standards is "frequent") are the main reason I went to Firefox. The AdBlock add-on for Firefox is probably the main reason I continued to use Firefox after making the switch.
