Online Radio without Vuvuzela's

Post by andyb » Fri Jun 11, 2010 8:21 am

Does anyone know of a radio station that will be streaming their station live online in English (don’t care about the accent so long as I can understand what is being said) without Vuvuzela's.?

Its either that or watch a whole load of Football without any sound.

I just managed to catch the last few minutes of South Africa vs Mexico, and had to immediately turn the volume off (that was streamed via one of the Sky Sports channels, I then turned on Radio 5 Live, and promptly turned that off as well.

Talkstport was much better, although it was Cricket, so another miss there.

If you know of any such stations please post them here noting the language being used, as I am sure its not just English speakers who don’t want to hear that horrible monotone drone for 90-minutes.

I never watch or listen to sport, so I don't know if this will help, but maybe there's something useful on this site:

andyb - have you found anything yet? 90 minutes of drone is unbearable.

Some possible good news:
World Cup organizer considers vuvuzela ban after TV complaints (guardian.co.uk).

Discussion from the pro audio world:
http://www.gearslutz.com/board/post-pro ... uzela.html

[edit] Quoting that discussion:
Cutting 235 + 470 + 940 Hz is a convincing improvement.
So, might be possible if watching via HTPC w/software EQ.

try experiment with your equalizer as most vuvuzela should emit sound at a specific band of frquency,

looks like 233, 466, 932 and 1864 Hz.

found some info

A french TV channel (Canal+) had the last game broadcasted without the vuvuzelas. They got rid of the specific frequencies and it seemed to work great. The other channel broadcasting the worldcup (TF1) is also looking into that technology.

Anyone with Windows can use the free AC3Filter audio decoder and processor. The built-in equalizer has user-customizable frequencies. So filtering out the vuvuzela's primary frequencies/harmonics should be easy. I'm at work now and can't test this. If time permits, I check it out tonight.

Listened to the USA:Algeria match today via ESPN radio. Almost ZERO vuvuzela!

For those who missed it...

USA scores in the 91st minute to advance to the elimination round. Seriously tense match.
