MSI 5900XT
Is anyone using this? i saw a review that it is quiet ( around 26db ) I wonder how true is that. Btw has anyone try installing a zalman heatsink on it?
I haven't used one personally, but the two MSI cards I had in the past (Ti4200 and FX5600) both had pretty small, loud fans on them....
Even if this thing runs at 26dB, thats still audible...the ZM80C-HP only runs at 20dB in Silent Mode, which is enough for a 5900XT i think, it does my FX5700 Ultra @ 545/950

Someone has already posted about this card, here. I have one of these cards. The fan on it has two speeds. When the fan is at the slower speed it is what I would consider quiet but still an extra source of noise. On boot the bios sets the fan to the faster speed. I'm using the generic nvidia drivers and they set the fan to the slower speed and back to the faster speed on entering 3D mode. I've not tried the drivers that came with the card.
I have a ZM80C-HP that I bought at the same time but have not yet gotten around to installing. I would like to install it without a fan but I'm not sure I would be able to get away with it in my system.
I have an undervolted xp1700 at stock speeds, a CNPS7000A-AlCu at <5v, one 120GB Barracuda V, a NX3500 and no case fans.

Well, the "MSI FX5700 TD128" and the "MSI FX5950 Ultra 256mb" are both compatible with it, so this one probably is...
As long as the card has pushpin holes around the GPU (which the two MSI's I had did) then you can install the heatsink. The only other sticking point would be the length of the heatpipe, but since I installed it on my FX5700 Ultra (the longest card in the history of mankind) - although it was only just long enough, it still fit.
I would say it would fit, everything points to that being the case.

If I was to spend that kind of money on an ATI card it would be the 9600XT Ultimate. But for me ATI was not an option as their Linux drivers suck.
