Radeon fan replacement?

Radeon fan replacement?

I have an ATI Radeon 64DDR VIVO (yeah, the original radeon) with active cooling. The fan is dying out with an annoying wail of death. I thought of removing the entire HSF unit and slapping on an old pentium heatsink for passive cooling. Would this be adequate enough for proper cooling?
