.... a Zalman fan bracket w/92mm fan?

I'm assuming that it wouldn't work very well (the card would overheat) because the fan wouldn't create enough pressure of the heatsinks, which are designed to have a fan very close to them.

People agree?

I'd reckon You'd need a duct to direct the airlflow straight to the HS.

One could just remove the fancy metal plate from the cooler and do something like this.

I slung a 80mm fan underneath my Leadtek 6800GT, just tied it on with some wire :D

It was quieter and cooler than the stock fan, even though the setup was far from optimal. The card didn't seem to care that it's fan was disconnected.

It was a temporary measure, I'm now watercooling the gpu.

I'm going to assume the internal fan control software on the 6800GT would dislike having it's fan disconnected.

I'm also going to assume that because the heatsink on that factory BFG card is sealed at the top, no airflow is going to reach the core where it's needed.

I had that same card (still do). If the fan is disconnected, no
complaints are issued by the drivers. I put a Zalman passive
heat sink/pipe on the BFG; it ran somewhat on the hot side, but still
stable.

...Have a Zalman Reserator now...nirvana...
