NEW Asus Extreme 7800GTX TOP [with AC Silencer]
Asus just released a new 7800GTX card, factory overclocked (486MHz GPU and 1350MHz RAM). It features an AC Silencer (or a very similar clone ) cooler. They say it scores +1000 3DMarks than reference 7800GTXs.

and that's kind of odd actually - as AC hasn't released one for the 7800s yet - perhaps ASUS found out that their existing NV Silencer still has the power / performance to cool a 7800 and perhaps the 7800 has the same mounting brackets as the 6800? maybe I"m wrong o.0...but 1000+ more than references... wow.
Cost: An arm, a leg, your soul, and the deed to all your properties.
EDIT: "Superior effective and quiet cooling solution – Cools the GPU by as much as 20 degrees less than generic GF 7800 GTX fansink."... I doubt that. Their 7800 GTX reference uses copper, or so the pics appear to say.

If they say soWhy ASUS is Better?
* Pre-sorted TOP version for better overclock-ability.
* Superior effective and quiet cooling solution - Cools the GPU by as much as 20 degrees less than generic GF 7800 GTX fansink.
* ASUS Splendid Video Enhancing Technology :
Splendid is a breathtaking innovation that brings the video viewing experience on PC to the next level. Built into the driver of ASUS graphics cards, Splendid Video Enhancing Technology detects activation and usage of video applications and automatically optimizes image quality for the best visual result.

* ASUS GameLiveShow :
Just like people who share their lives and thoughts on blogs, expert gamers often want to show off their perfectly executed strategies and five-hit combinations to other gamers. GameLiveShow is another innovative feature incorporated in ASUS graphics cards that is created to allow gamers to stream broadcast their gaming experience live over the Internet. Other players can now go online to check out how you expertly beat the whole game.

* Diversified connectivity, including dual DVI-I (convertible to VGA), dual VGA, HDTV-out, Video in
* High-quality TV output for big screen gaming or presentations
And I was just reading about the EVGA KO Edition card at AnandTech. This of course looks like a better cooler then EVGA's but at least we now have manufactures deverging from the reference cooler. First I wanted to go BFG, now EVGA looks tempting with lower noise, temps and increased performance plus a similar (lifetime) warranty to BFG. Now we have this.
Glad I decided to buy the processor and video card last. Can't wait to hear more info and/or a review of this thing.

That’s 50W AC. Subtract the inefficiency of the PSU and you are closercotdt wrote:The 7800GT uses 50W less power than the 7800GTX. I think you can passively cool the 7800GT w/o worries.
to the difference reported by xbitlabs
Standard 7800 GTX cooler is alu, not copper.
EVGA ACS cooler uses a copper heatsink (with the same design as the standard cooler) and has the extra plate, so performance should be slightly better.
7800 gtx produces less heat than a 6800 ultra, so it will run fine with the VGA Silencer, assuming it fits.

HotHardware has a review of the TOP. Linked to page 2 to demonstrate something; you need an ASUS board for SLI. These cards are too wide to work in the majority of SLI boards and need two PCI-E connectors between each 16x one.
Well, my next vid card upgrade will be for Quake 4, and although I truly love my R9800 (excellent image quality in both 2D and 3D), i'll probably be abandoning ATI in favor of Nvidia simply for the stellar OpenGL performance. But being the silent PC enthusiast that I am, power consumption + heat output matter a lot to me.
How does the 6800GT fare in comparison to the 7800GT? The 6800GT is kind of what I've had my sights set on for some time.

Looks like ASUS is using the new (unreleased) version of the AC Silencer.

Given good reviews on silence with this system, I'm excited to order this product. I would consider buying a stock 7800gtx and then adding the cooler a good option, but it's not available yet so I'm going to order the ASUS version.
