What software to use to see my computer temp?

They make noise, too.

Try speedfan. This software monitors your voltage, fan speed, and the temperatures of your CPU, chipset and HDD. I don't know about GPU monitoring softwares. If your video card has a temperature probe, your video drivers should report the temperature. For my Radeon X800XT, it's under the Overdrive tab, in the advanced display settings...

Everest Home Edition.

Provides temps, voltages, fan speeds. Collects all of the system hardware config data together as well.

Does Speedfan work with the nForce 2 version of the Abit uGuru chip yet?

I know it works fine with the nForce 4 version of it.

I just ran the everest home software.. n' I found my gpu fan speed is 6818rpm and the cpu fan speed is 3516rpm... cpu fan seems okey.. but 6k rpm on gpu fan .. is that normal? it's pretty noisy obviously... it's at 43C .. what's normal temp for gpu?

small fans, like 60mm, need to run fast in order to get the cfm needed to cool the gpu. 6800rpm is zooming!

43C is a pleasantly low temp. is that at idle or while gaming, etc...?

yea.. no kidding... it's reallie zooming... as if there's a mini 747 engine inside the case.. 43C is just idle.. will test out the gaming temp soon...
however.. my HD is around 63-65C range during idle n' gaming... is that okey? I read the HD fao... they said the "safe" temp should be under 55C.. btw.. my case is Antec Sonata II if that matters

I'm not one to be paranoid about HD temps, but 63-65C is definitely *not* ok. You should definitely keep it below the safe temp, preferrably below 50C as well. How/where do you have it mounted to get it so hot? And what brand/model is it?

I just mounted it on the hd rack in my case... hmm..... so wut can I do to cool it down? adding heatsink? wut's the most effective quiet way ?

In my experience it's usually enough to have the harddrive positioned in moving air to keep the temperature of a hot HD at a reasonable level, so a slow spinning fan blowing over the drive to provide a light breeze should lower your temperature, also, since the temperature is lower in the bottom of your case (in a tower case that is) you could try to put your drive there. However, maybe an improvement of your case airflow will be sufficient, with a HD temperature as high as 63-65C I'm wondering what your case temperature is. I always try to control the case airflow so that the intake only is where I wan't it to be and then place my drives in the airpath, that way I've never had the need for an intake fan to keep the drives cool.

An intake fan mounted in front of the HDD will drop the temp to something reasonable...as 65C is NOT! :-)

Check out the recommended fan page for a slow moving and quiet 120mm fan.

I was thinking about puttin a slow intake fan.. but I found there's no place to mount it in my case (antec sonata II) .. only a 120mm exhaust fan at the back.. the case temp seem reasonable to me.. about 36-38C .. very close to the cpu temp..

btw.. I m using a WD sata II 160g hd...

the gaming temp for my video card is 44-46C

No place for a fan...maybe you've got a special sonata II then ;-)

From the Antec Sonata IIweb page:

Cooling System:
- 1 rear 120mm Tricool fan (standard) with 3-speed control to balance quiet with cooling
- 1 front 120mm case fan (optional) 25mm thick

-1 92mm fan (optional) in the air duct to cool the CPU
- 1 80mm fan (optional) for graphics cards

hmm.... lemme double check tonite.. so ther is a place to put a fan for my graphic card too.. can I add a fan there n' just unplug the annoying fan on my grahpic card? will it provide sufficient cooling?
THANK YOU.

There's a lot of info on the Sonata II on this board. Do a quick search and you'll probably find everything you are looking for.

haha.. and that's one of the reasons I bought this case too...
I found the front mount for the intake fan.. it's at the back fo the hd mount.. I thought it was somewhere in between the front cover and the HD mount.. hmm... and I kept searching there and I broke the hinge of the air filter.. ouch...
I had put my hand on the HD... but it didnt' feel like 65C at all... it was much cooler than my old 1600xp heatsink.. which was at only 60C... but both the "speedfan" and "everesthome" have showed the same temp... I wonder why...
now I have set the exhaust fan speed to medium.. it cooled down my hd to 57-59C and my cpu 30-32C... dunno how accurate this is...
well... I still couldn't find the graphic fan mount..... =p

It's really starting to sound like you have a faulty temperature sensor in that HD. That model really shouldn't be running so hot under those conditions, and if it doesn't feel like it's that hot either, all the more reason to suspect the reading isn't very accurate.

I have two hard drives in Silentdrive enclosures, wrapped in dampening material, and stacked on top of each other in the lower chamber of my P180 with very little airflow, and they still stay below 50C. You have a regular hard drive with no dampening, mounted directly to the drive rack of a case with otherwise normal temperatures. It shouldn't be able to reach the temperatures you quote, even if the airflow was nil.

yea.. exactly... so I guess I will just ignore it... may be just get a 120mm intake fan later.. =)
thanks everyone for answering my question ;)
