arctic cooling or zalman

Post by tjpark1111 » Wed Jan 25, 2006 1:33 pm

I'm going to be using a 6600GT, and I'm wondering if I should go with arctic cooling or zalman. I heard the Arctic Cooling coolers click and make noises after a few months, but is it really true of all the coolers? I would guess so because it all seems the same fan to me, but can anyone confirm?(nv silencer 6 rev. 2) I like the idea of exhausting air out of the case, I wish zalman would make one. Anyways, I guess I answered my own question but here's the real question, if it turns out true that all Arctic Cooling coolers make noises after a couple months of use. Should I go with a Zalman VF-700(possibly a fan mod if you guys say even on 5v it ain't quiet enough, and if the mod is easy), or go passive? I'll tell you what the system cooling will be like. BTW, I'm not a silence freak, I just don't like things that are excessively loud, and if any mod/upgrade is going to make minimal differences in noise, I won't contribute to it.
P150 - 2 92mm 5v Nexus intakes, 1 120mm nexus 5v exhaust, 1 120mm nexus thermally controlled by MB for Scythe Ninja(should I go passive on the ninja?). 1 Samsung 250GB is the only thing that's blocking airflow for the intakes. Because the ninja is so huge, I wonder if the heat can be transferred too easily to the top and the case fans.... I'm new to this thing and ever since I haven't been liking how mobos are designed so that video cards face down, rather than face up, since the heat might get trapped in the bottom. I think the intakes will do an excellent job with blowing the heat off, maybe if I open up a PCI slot in the back itll be a direct heat transfer.

the zalman should do the job great. ive got one on my 6600gt and am very happy with it. at idle, you can run it passive. but at load you must turn it onto 5v

I have an AC Silencer 5 Rev 2 on X800XT PE, I am running ATI Tool to keep the tems/and silence within limits, its superb.

Ive had it 6+ moths and experienced no clicking at all, (my previous AC Silencer Mk 0. rev 2 is still going strong after 2 years).

My settings are: Above **C use **% fan speed.

0 C 5%
30C 10%
35C 15%
40C 20%
45C 25%
50C 35%
55C 45%
60C 100%

You will notice that at 55C its jumps to 100% fan speed, this is a precaution and nothing more as the GPU has never topped 48C (55C is also a precaution, just a quiter precaution :))

wow you can do that?(the fan speed thing) I wonder if it'll work on a 6600GT w/ RivaTuner. hmm I'm really worried about the thing clicking, at least you don't have any problems, or, maybe something louder is drowning out the clicking noise.
