ATi Silencer 5 Fan Broken?

OK, so the fan made this really annoying clicking sound when I set it to below 100%. I read that this was caused by the fan controller on the video card (X800GTO2), so I managed to get it plugged into the fan header on my motherboard after bending one of the pins. After I started my computer, the fan didn't run at all, so I plugged it back into the video card fan header, but it still didn't start. So I'm now forced to run this fanless, but the idle temperature is 70º Celsius. Did I short out the fan or something?
