Looking for recommendations for graphics cards

Post by Confused Chimp » Sat Oct 28, 2006 1:35 pm

Looking for recommendations for which graphics card to buy.
Requirements are:
-passively cooled.
-have Video In/Video out for composite video - i.e. VIVO or equivelent.
-run at res of 1280x1024 or higher

Doesn't need to be:
- able to play games.

Just want to use it to surf web etc and watch films.
Any help or recommendations would be most appricated
Cheers

Nvidia...

I like the Nvidia 7600GS or GT. They run cooler than their equivalent ATI offerings (X1600), and both are available passive. I have three of them in my various home systems. Gigabyte, in particular, seems to have the best passive solutions.

The downside is no video input. Get a cheap TV tuner card for this - $60 or so for the Hauppauge PVR-150.

I think ATI has better offerings for the VIVO part - you could also look at their All-in-Wonder offerings. Everything I've read on ATI is that they run much hotter than Nvidia. Look on Xbitlabs for details.
