Just under X1950Pro and wait for nvidia 8X00

Post by sgtspiff » Wed Jan 24, 2007 7:55 am

Okidoki...

My planned buy of a X1950Pro with the Thermalright HR-03 went down the drain as the cooler doesn't fit the card.

And as the X1950Pro everywere is said to have most bang for buck (in my VGA budget level) what's next if I go down in price? X1900GT? 7900GS?

Questions;
1. What VGA should I buy as X1950Pro wont take the HR-03? A cheaper.
2. What VGA should I buy now if I wait for more Nvidia 8X00 series a year?
3. Have anyone tried the HR-03 with a 8800GTS/X??

I will buy a HR-03 in either case (and use it with a 8X00 card aswell).

A good comparison of current graphics cards -> http://www.digit-life.com/articles2/dig ... x0612.html

Atleast here the 7900gs is the same price as the x1950 pro and slower. If you want anything cheaper the go for 7600 gs/gt or x1650 pro/xt. Can't help you with the hr-03 though.

so far, I don't think there is any 8x00 card that any current aftermarket cooler will fit on, because they use different mounting holes. just a word of warning before you go off buying that HR-03 ;)

but I'm not 100 percent sure, better safe than sorry though

I asume that the coolers that are out there and popular (as the HR-03) wil get brackets for mounting on 8X00 cards.

But what do you recommend if I'm just going to use the card for a year or at top two years?

Will i be able to play whatever's on the market right now (and a year ahead)? Ofcourse I wont be able to play any Dx10 games. But no way I will put out 350€ on a vga card.

Can you really play all current games with a 7600GT?

www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html

here's another comparison of vga cards - i'm only posting this so you can be sure you've waded thru at least 500 reviews before you buy a card :lol:

7900gs seems to offer good bang/buck today and comes with passive coolers

This page on the Thermalright site seems to show how the HR-03 can be used with the 1950 pro
