Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer fan noise

Post by ceraf » Sun Nov 18, 2007 1:49 pm

I have one of those old VGA Silencers attached to my radeon 9700 pro. The fan on it is the loudest thing in my system (marginally), and it sounds like it's making a very quiet clicking noise.

Would I be able to run my video card passive? or possibly with a fan attached directly on the heatsink?

any thoughts?

I doubt it would function passively unless you only used it in 2D mode.

I suggest strapping a fan directly to the heatsink and taking the shroud off.

I would second this idea:

You can run low-speed 80mms that work just as well as the stock configuration. I can also see a second 80mm being installed. Note I no longer have this cooler or the 9800.

PS - I have not looked at this picture in a while... I was suprised to see my old Non-A64bit SI-97 with a custom 754 bracket. A modded Silencer and a modded SI-97, man I was good! :)
