This card is got an amazing price, but its not passive. Anyone got any clue how loud is the fan on it. But from stats, but actual owners of this card.
Thanks

I have the XXX version, and the fan is very annoying--seems to be on 100% full all the time too. However, XFX lets you keep the lifetime warranty if you swap the heatsink.

I concur with QuietOC.....my XXX version is on all the time and drowns out everything else. My plans are to upgrade to 8800GT combined with an Accelero S1. Other than noise the 8600GT is a nice entry level card and passive versions are available. It does well in all games (save Crysis) at 1280x1024. However, keep your eyes peeled for its replacement due out in February, the GeForce 9600GT. Here's a review: http://en.expreview.com/?p=184

I have 2 of these cards in an SLI configuration and they wail like banshees, overpowering all 5 nearly silent case fans in Antec gamer case. I can't wait to get rid of them for an 8800GT with decent fan/heatsink combo. Avoid this card if you value quiet computing.

You could go with an Artic Cooling Accelero S1 on that? Should be just as cool. Also, because it's an XFX, it still has lifetime warranty after you swap the stock heat sink for your heat sink of choice.

The 8600GT has one of the best watts to "horse power" ratios, so it should make up for a good quiet graphics adaptor. And if it's cheap, then you'd surely have the extra dough to fork out for an Accelero S1??

and from what i've read online, then fan always runs 100%. I can't find a setting in the nvidia control panel.
