They make noise, too.

eVGA GeForce 8800 GT

Post by Cov » Thu Mar 27, 2008 11:45 am

Alright, have ordered the eVGA GeForce 8800 GT a few minutes ago.
I wasn't sure about this card when I placed the order for my other computer items, but the person who took the order convinced me to the point that this is the card to go for and he managed to calm me down regarding my heat-problem concerns ... I then just ordered it .

I know for Crysis and Flightsimulator X for example - every single FPS counts.
Hopefully I won't get my case in flames one day, hehe.

I was really unsure which one to get, the 8800 GT or the 9600 GT.
The 9600 is reported to run approx 20 degrees cooler but has about 10 to 15 % lower performance.

If you're worried about the heat, just replace the stock heatsink with the Accelero S1 and you should see the temps drop between 10-20*C depending on if you put a fan on it or near it.

The 8800GT is an awesome card to have in your system, you should be able to play most games (except for Crysis, of course) on highest settings.

I've got and EVGA 8800GT SSC and have installed an Accelero S1 on it without adding a fan. My temps dropped so much that my load temp doesn't even get as high as my old idle temp.

I am considering getting another to run SLI. Luckily, I can get a lower model and as long as I use the SSC in the first slot, the lower model will run at the overclocked speed too.

But you are really getting the same model with lower clock speeds, correct? Just making sure my understanding of SLI is correct.

From a fact sheet I read, you can use ANY brand 8800GT with any clock speed. The clock speed of the second will default to the same as what is in the first slot. Although they can be different brands, they have to be the same card (IE: EVGA 8800GT + MSI 8800GT)

Okay, thanks for the clarification. That was my understanding of it.
