Low cost AGP Dual LCD (DVI) Video Card?

They make noise, too.

Low cost AGP Dual LCD (DVI) Video Card?

Post by intx » Wed Apr 16, 2008 10:01 pm

What's a fairly low cost AGP video card that can support two LCD screens?

(and quiet, of course.. but that should go without saying  )

Thanks !

If you don't need 3D, get a matrox G550. It's obviously silent, as it's passive and only needs quite small heatsinks, so not much effect to system cooling needs either. I think max power is 20W or less.

You should be able to get one used for cheap.

dual DVI is a lost cause for AGP. you can get DVI to VGA adapter cables which might work for you, but a cheap card that can do what you need, not likely. VGA (D-Sub) is what you'll be able to find cheap. I have a Matrox Millennium Dual head, and its 32mb AGP 4x card that gets the job done. Most i've ever used it for is dual 17" monitors for a couple hours.

you can get cheap dual display (some even triple display), but they might not have two DVI outputs, normally either one DVI and one S-video out, or you get lucky with a VGA, DVI and S-Video.

Hello,

Here's what a NewEgg search turned up. This is the only passively cooled model, with two DVI outputs -- it uses a short 'Y' dongle.

i don't think newegg ships to canada....

here's what ncix.com has to offer... i don't see any passive cards, but you should see if any passive coolers might fit them... i see a few radeon HD2xxx series for just over $100 CAD.

I've found a few cards that are dual DVI capable, AGP, and passive.

Thanks again to NeilBlanchard for his findings, and everyone for their effort.

Visiontek X1050
Nvidia Quadro 4 280 NVS
Matrox G550

None of these are going to be decent gaming cards, but which would you recommend for dual widescreen LCD monitors at 1680x1050?

Will the X1050 support 1680x1050 resolution? Visiontek's website info for the X1050 seems to imply it won't?

Thanks

the website quotes "
16:9 aspect ratio monitors are supported on 1920x1080 and 848x480 on Windows® XP, Windows® 2000. The complete list of resolutions depends on the driver version and operating system.
so that means that is can maybe do it, and maybe not, depending on ......... -> no guaranties.
