What is this connector on ASUS 9600GT?
After connecting the PCI-E power connector to my 9600GT I looked around in the box and found an envelope with a strange little cable with header and fan connectors on each end. There is nothing in the "instructions" about this. I see a two pin header on the board, but it is unmarked.
The fan runs without this connection so it does not seem to be related to the HSF on the GPU.
What is it?
BTW the instructions for this thing amount to about five lines and it says depending on your card, you might need to plug in a power cable. The PCI-E connector is cryptically labeled and if it were not for the PUS manual and the shape of the connector, I probably would have been at a loss. This is the worst manual I've ever encountered and much better than the Intel Core 2 instructions and they are wordless.

By fan connectors, do you mean 4-pin Molex connectors, or something else?
If I understand your description, this is a power adapter for the 6-pin power connector on the 9600GT. Some power supplies do not have a 6-pin connector, so that adapter is used to plug in (2) 4-pin Molex connectors into the video card to supply power.

the 9600GT (at least mine did) comes with a DVI to HDMI adapter. using the SPDIF cable lets you run your internal digital audio through the card into the HDMI cable, where everything can go to the destination in one cable.
reduced clutter out the back maybe? i don't use SPDIF or HDMI, so i can't tell you much past that.
