Compare it to 4830 instead

Another "low-end revolution" (and for me a realization that the performance equivalent of my almost-new shiny 8800 GT will be worth < $100).

Yeah, I see that. But 4830 is a bit loud and warm for occasional gaming, don't you think?
I love 4670 for it's silent nature, with no additional 12V supplying.
Let's see at last what there'll be in the end with PowerPlay on mass production RV740 cards. If it will be a firedraking monster requiring an aircraft turbine for cooling, I'm personally not interested at all, whether it runs FarCry2 on 50 fps or not, or how less bucks do I have to pay for the upgrade

Yes, it seems this one is fanless version of the HD4670.
Uses two slots place, and the heatsink is above the card, not under.

That's a small passive cooler on that HIS 4670. With an Arctic S2 you get about twice the amount of cooling surface and ram heatsinks...

Ohhh that Arctic S2 is huge indeed!
And is it easy to instal it on the card?

The other problem I find with that passive HIS HD 4670, that it has 1 GB memory.
I guess it increases power consumption compared with the 512 MB versions, and 1 GB is probably needless.

Anyone who knows how to use a screwdriver can install it I guess.
The hardest part is getting the stock hsf off. Just make sure you first heat up the card using a 3d app. for a while and the heatsink will separate from the gpu quite easily.

For anyone that runs F@H. Iam noticing that over short-mid-long periods of time the card locks up. It isnt the GPU as temps are 45-50 ish at most. Iam wondering if the VRM or Memory is overheating since the HIS cooler in no way contacts these.
Just on observation for any F@H users running it on the HIS IceQ 4670.
If anyone else gets this is has maybe a solution or something PM me. It could be something Iam not thinking out, I'am not sure.
*Note gaming hasn't resulted to this but I never have the card at constant(or long periods of) 99% usage with any games I play.

About my last post would maybe it be a good idea for me to downclock a bit while I run F@H. And if so what would be good clock rates to jump to safely everytime I run F@H.

For all asking about the noisy fan, new MSI card with Zalman cooling (R4670-2D512SP) could be solution. There's a 3 wire fan, maybe it has decent rpm control.

I have read that it not so quiet even we have a Zalman fan.
I will go the Powercolor or the His silence4

Hey guys,
I just finished reading the entire topic and I decided to buy the HIS. Has anyone of you tried to fit an accelero S1 (rev 2) on it?
It is that plastic thing around the board that worries me, I can't even see where the gpu is located (I hope it is not under the fan in the far righthand side).

thanks!

CocoBryce,
this review from techpowerup has some pictures of the HIS with the cooler off. The layout seems pretty standard so I guess the S1 fits.

thanks maf718, that is an awesome review, very detailed indeed. It looks like the s1 will fit.

Hi guys !
Anyone know where i can get latest Ati tray tools with support HD4670?
I have 1.6.9.1368 but this doesn't recognize good HD4670.
I can't over-underclock.
I tried Rivatuner. Is good, but don't have hotkeys for contrast, britness, gama atc.

Is the power consumpter under Crossfire the same as 2x1 card? It seems a C 4670 setup is about the same speed as a 4850 but that setup would have MUCH lower power, especially at idle.
THanks
Chris

Check this thread.
The successors to 4670, 4850 and the others will be out soon anyway.
Let's hope AMD doesn't forget Powerplay this time.

So does anyone have a pic of an install with the Accelero S2? I'm trying to get an idea if it will fit without blocking 3 slots. I have a passive 3650 right now (see link), but might upgrade to a 4670 or 4830 w/ S2 if it fits
Oops, fixing link:

Has anyone successfuly fitted the Zalman VNF100 to the gigabyte card? I have a shuttle PC, and it only has one PCI-e slot right at the edge of the box. So the S2 has epic fail sideways and upwards. VNF100 is my only chance of total passive cooling. It sounds like the M25 in the background at the moment.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/ ... /front.jpg
found the HIS version....it fits. Anyone got/know of a pic of the gigabyte version without any sink/fans on on to compare?
I have also found one of the ATI version sans heatsink:
http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/ha ... iew-6.html
Comparing the two side by side I am growing in confidence that this will work. Would prefer to see a pic of the gigabyte one too though!
If not how about the nice idea I just read of connecting it to a mobo fan port?
Any functional reason why it wont work?

Pensive: What about a
Thermalright HR-03, will it fit? Or maybe the heatpipes are too high?

The HR-03 cannot fit unless you have a card without the fan connector getting in the way (or unless you want to void warranty and remove the shroud and bend the pins).

Nice, thanks! Does it block just one slot below the card, or two?

I've had a look at the HR03 but unfortunately, I have a shuttle PC. That means in real terms that I only have 2.5cm (precisely) between the back of the card and the hard drive bay (having removed my soundcard). The HR03 is far too deep for my little case to accomodate.
I calculate the Zalman is _just_ small enough to fit. It's 38.5cm wide in total, but that includes all the bits that go over the card and clamp on the other side.
I have compared mounting holes and they are the same so I'm sure It will mount. Does anyone know if the zalman coolers come with thermal paste? I know that ram sinks have thermal tape.
