Most Powerful Video Card for Antec NKS1380

Post by VSS » Sun Nov 09, 2008 4:18 pm

I am getting tired of large cases and want my next system to be small, esthetically appealing, reasonably silent, but still powerful. Following is my list of considered components:

Case: Antec NKS1380
Motherboard: ASUS P5QL-EM (Graphics disabled)
CPU: Intel Coew 2 Quad Q9450
RAM: 4 x OCZ Platinum Revision-2 1G DDR2
56K PCI Modem card
HDD: 2 internal SATA

All USB is handled by two hubs

I want to add the most powerful video card that can be handled with case PSU unit (350W) and fit inside the case. My preference is ATI 4830 or 4850 cards because of both 3D and HDTV with sound performance, however the case PSU power may not be sufficient.

Has anyone put such or similar system together, or has an advice on this matter. Maybe case power can support it? External power solutions? Other ideas?

Regards

I think you should look at thesetwo threads. The first user has a 4670 passively cooled by a AC S1 which is running on a 120W PicoPSU. The second user has a 3870 passively cooled by a AC S1 running from a 200W PicoPSU. So those dimensions are known to work.

From a bit of research, the 3870 is 24cm (9.5in) long. The 4850 and 4830 are both the same length, which is equal to the 3870. According to this post by Nick Geraedts the 4850 can be cooled passively with an AC S1. So from all this info, a passive 4850 appears to be possible.
