Anybody else have problems w/ Catalyst 9.1?

They make noise, too.

Anybody else have problems w/ Catalyst 9.1?

Post by tehfire » Thu Jan 29, 2009 8:42 pm

Hey all,

I woke up this morning and found a surprise on the internet -- Catalyst 9.1 drivers. My excitement was stymied, however, when after installing the drivers, my screen went blank -- my monitor was in power-saving mode. Rebooting into safe mode and remoting into the computer still worked. I tried uninstalling the old drivers, cleaning with driver cleaner, and reinstalling all the packages I could find, but I had no luck. Eventually, I resigned and reinstalled 8.12. Has anybody else had this problem? Any ideas what it could be?

Hmm...speed, what OS are you running? I'm using Vista64. I don't think it's a global issue with all Vista64 computers, I just wonder what it is about my configuration ::shrugs::

I'm on W7 64 which might as well be Vista64 as far as drivers are concerned and I can't get 9.1 to install, but I also cant even uninstall my current drivers, I also can no longer access my CCC. All these above actions lead to a crash. It all started after I clicked the Avivo category in CCC.

I've had many error reports goto Microsoft, as I let it send one everytime I've encountered the problem, I spent a long time troubleshooting so Ive sent many :P.

What I will try now is to run safe mode, and if I can get into CCC there, and get it outta the Avivo Category, (I usually have Overdrive default when I open CCC) maybe this will fix it, as Iam guessing W764 doesnt like Avivo.

Ill also try a driver update in safe mode.

I cant get anything done in safe mode either, it tells me the "Driver Module" is missing. When I'm not in safe i just get a program crash in the place of that message.

I got a solution unfortunatly I forget how to do it LOL. Basically randomly today when I tryed updating i got a Windows Error Report crap and it said to enter a line into CMD and it actually fixed it. Apparently theres some problems on W7 64 with MSI Installer.

Yeah, there's been quite a lot talking about 9.1 catalysts. Forexample Muropaketti, a large finnish community of computer enthusiasts etc has asked peoples to report how their 9.1. catalysts are working.

Looks like I dodged a bullet. I installed a new 4830 today but went with the 8.12 instead of the 9.1's.

Hmmm. 9.1 crashes my system when I enable crossfire. It's odd because it worked (seemingly) well yesterday. Switching back to 8.12 solved these issues.

I'm also using a beta version of Ati Tray Tools rather than CCC. Maybe that's the issue? Possibly. I have no problem using 8.12 for the time being.

8.12 drivers crashed and recovered without any apparent reason while browsing the web. That happened a couple of times, maybe 6-8?

That didn't happen with 8.11, and hopefully won't happen with 9.1. It's very unprofessional if the driver kills itself while "doing nothing" :-)

If you don't have any issues with 8.12 there's no reason to upgrade. If you look at the release notes there's no new features or fps improvements.

Anyone know if 9.1 runs on Vista64 with > 4GB RAM yet?
(8.12 does not work on a Vista64/8 GB system at all: drivers do not load).
