I've only seen two reviews on the 5770 vapor-x card so far, @ techgage and hexus. Neither provides audio testing, just a "sounds quiet to me" subjective test with their rather noisy setups. Based on some Vapor-X 5750 reviews, I think it'll be quieter than the two stock solutions. If your HTPC is 6' away and your sound system is on, perhaps it'll be inaudible.
I'm opting to get the xfx 5770 w/ stock egg cooler and then retrofit with an Accelero L2 Pro in a couple of weeks. Good review at HT4U.net
Can't comment on fusion case fit.

This is what I would do, except I would probably go with an S1 rev2 and mod it slightly (cut the fins back on one end to the first heat pipe). This is a very easy mod, but if you are not comfortable with a Dremel, then the L2 is clearly a better choice. However, the added surface area on the S2 means that for a well-ventilated case you may be able to run it completely passive.CA_Steve wrote:I'm opting to get the xfx 5770 w/ stock egg cooler and then retrofit with an Accelero L2 Pro
My experience with a variety of non-reference but factory-configured "quiet" coolers is that they are usually not particularly quiet, or effective, or both. Adding an excellent after-market cooler is *extremely* easy, and usually cost-effective compared to the "silent" cooler mark-ups. ATI's built-in over-clocking tool also means that you usually can easily get a noticeable bump in performance simply by using a higher-quality cooler.

Regarding the case, I've used an S1 in a Fusion. You simply have to gently bend the pipes (very easy) so the cooler forms an 'L' shape. Note that this will consume one additional slot (3 total) for the GPU and cooler. Assuming you don't need the slots, this works very well.
However, if you are considering the Fusion, please also consider the CoolerMaster Elite 360. This is an excellent little case that is noticeably smaller than the Fusion. There are some trade-offs (see my experience at: viewtopic.php?t=56442&highlight=), but I am planning to switch my HTPC from a Fusion to the CM Elite 360.

Um, no.misenlai wrote:well the vaporx i posted above is same price as the reference 5770...
so I think getting the cooler would be extra $$$
The HIS 5770 is currently selling on NewEgg for $22 less than the VaporX. The L2 is $20 + shipping at SVC, so the cost is a wash. You seem to be looking for reasons to buy the VaporX, which is fine, but IMO the HIS + L2 is a superior solution. And for $5 more (plus a little modding), the S1 is even better. But obviously this is up to you...
ht4u also did a review and they quite liked it: http://ht4u.net/reviews/2009/sapphire_r ... index9.phpCA_Steve wrote:I've only seen two reviews on the 5770 vapor-x card so far, @ techgage and hexus. There's also a passive 5750 from Club 3D (it is a 5750 with Accelero S1): http://www.club3d.nl/products/products_ ... uct_id=222
that looks like the powercolor card?ekerazha wrote:There's also a passive 5750 from Club 3D (it is a 5750 with Accelero S1): http://www.club3d.nl/products/products_ ... uct_id=222
This 3D Club card doesn't sport an AC S1. It's a proprietary cooler. Very similar to S1. That said, it should work just fine on this model. Just have a slow spinning 80/92 mm fan down front and you'll be fine.
BTW...
HIS now has a new 5770. Note the single height I/O bracket AND the seemingly better positioned GPU. Both features should translate to much much better chances of AC S1 fitting this baby w/o problems. No stupid double DVI, no GPU close to I/O. I'm looking to pounce on this one once my 4770 gets too slow.

1. I'd also like to recommend the S1 rev B. Dremel is however not necessary:cb95014 wrote:...CA_Steve wrote:I'm opting to get the xfx 5770 w/ stock egg cooler and then retrofit with an Accelero L2 Pro

(500rpm fan. Temps: 30C idle / 44 at max with o/c)
2. I would be cautious with the auto-overclocking tool as it fried my 3870 by overclocking too quickly to all too high numbers and this was with an after market cooler which is much more efficient than vanilla.
With newer drivers auto-tune o/c might have improved though.

the 5770 overclocks like a champ.
3870 from Visiontek did as well, they cherry pick theirs.
I wouldnt buy the xfx one I have, it has a super loud shroud. I am going to put it on my WC loop though so it will be silent shortly. the new Egg cooler is quieter by a factor of 2x
I would buy only sapphire's vapor-x one if i wasnt going to change the cooler on it to custom. That thing is awesome and the components are higher quality on the pcb.
