They make noise, too.

4670 not registering in Speedfan

Post by doveman » Sat Dec 26, 2009 5:51 am

I've just installed a 4670 Ultimate (passive) in my Dad's PC and Speedfan doesn't show any temperature readings for it.

I'm not sure if he's got the latest version, so I'll have to check that and update it if not, but is this a known issues with Speedfan and the 4670 and if so, is there an alternative (free) program that will allow me to monitor all the temperatures of his system at once?

Speedfan doesn't see mine, I use RivaTuner for the GPU and a desktop gadget that takes a feed from it.
In fact I've never seen Speedfan register a temperature from a discreet graphics card.

I used GPU-Z to check my 4670's temp randomly. If you insist an all-in-one solution, Everest may be an alternative.

Unfortunately SpeedFan doesn't have the ability to read temperatures from ATI cards. Alfredo has said that he wants to add that feature, but there's no telling how long it will take.

Cheers for the advice guys. I guess I'll just use GPU-Z combined with Speedfan for now.

HWMonitor should read it also.

HW Monitor shows the GPU temp and everything else that speed fan does. Since i've never used Speed Fan to control fans, I don't even install it anymore.

I haven't had a chance to test HW Monitor with the 4670, but I've tested it and Hardware Sensors Monitor with my HD3200 IGP motherboard and I've had some interesting results with fan RPM monitoring.

In Speedfan it shows my 3 fans at: (CPU) 804 RPM, (Front) 158 RPM and (Rear) 1134 RPM. Clearly the Front fan reading is wrong. It used to be OK but I recently upgraded my motherboard's BIOS which might have messed it up.

HW Monitor only shows 2 fans at: 3245 RPM and 631 RPM (this may be my front fan).
HW Sensors Monitor shows 2 fans at: 807 RPM and 3835 RPM.

None of my fans are running at much over 1000RPM, let alone over 3000RPM!
