They make noise, too.

5770 + twin turbo?

Post by Flanker » Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:24 pm

Been reading some other threads relevant to either product but didn't want to thread hijack to I made another.

I just bought an accelero twin turbo for my 9600GT, it is working very well (except the galaxy PCB is screwed up so i have to use 12V for the fans), but I'm planning a bit in case the 9600GT decided to die one day. The 5770 seems to be a good replacement/upgrade. I'm wondering whether I can re-use the twin turbo on a 5770? I'm probably going to buy the cheapest XFX 5770 I can find for its modding friendly warranty. I guess it will be a reference design. the website of arctic cooling didn't list the 5770 as compatible but the height restriction looks OK.
Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks in advance :D

I've tried putting a Twin Turbo on a 5770.

The short answer is that the Twin Turbo can fit the 5770 with some modification, but keeping the fan shroud intact is a major PITA. If you can handle the space, I strongly recommend ditching the shroud and zip-tying a quiet 120mm fan to the cooler. Alternatively you could keep the fans (/shroud), but use zip-ties on the end closest to the video connectors instead of the molded clip.

See viewtopic.php?t=56355&highlight= for details and pictures of my experience.

Hope this helps.
