Samsung Syncmaster BX2450

Post by karkee » Thu Nov 18, 2010 11:09 am

Hello,

I have a question it might be a noobie one though :D I am currently thinking about buying new monitor with new PC.

The Samsung BX2450 was looking really nice but I have was looking for a monitor who could still handle 75HZ @ low reso's (for example 640x480), now the specs of this monitor says:

Frequency
30 - 81 kHz horizontal
56 - 61 Hz vertical

Will it run 640x480 @ 75hz or does the vertical need to be up to 75 to?

For example the Samsung SyncMaster BX2440 has this spec:

Frequency

30 - 81 kHz horizontafl
56 - 75 Hz vertical

I actually have this monitor.

Just tested it now, using an EVGA GTX 460 as my display adaptor I was able to select and use 800x600 at 75hz in the nVidia control panel. 640x480 was not an available pre-set though.

On a side note, I got this monitor recently and am quite pleased with it so far. However, I did have to return it twice due to dead pixels out of the box. So be wary of that.

Given that almost every PC's boot text mode is 70 Hz, every PC monitor should at least support that. I have a 2343BWX with the same vertical frequency specs and it displays the 70 Hz boot screen fine. It may mean that the monitor will accept higher refreshes, but won't actually redraw any faster.

Thanks alot for testing it out :) I guess if the 800x600 works it should work at 640x480 to. Could you test that out in windows for me? It should be liste in the Adapter settings in windows settings, also you used VGA or hdmi input?

If it can run 640x480 in windows I will probably buy it thanks for the input :)

The reason I am asking all this is because I still sometimes play CS 1.6 and its more enjoying with low res/75HZ, for now my LA2405WG can not do this.

Thanks.

I did some additional testing for you. It seems you can use 640x480x32@75hz for this monitor; however, I wasn't always able to select this resolution from a list in either the Windows display settings or nVidia control panel while using HDMI. So, I tried with a VGA cable and 640x480x32@72hz worked. After I switched back to HDMI and rebooted 640x480x32@75hz was listed as a display option so I tried it and it worked, but then after I switched back to native resolution and closed the nVidia control panel the option for 640x480x32@75hz disappeared when I checked again. Not sure why, but I'm guessing Windows/nVidia hides this option for HDMI.

Also, going to the monitor properties page in Windows shows 640x480x32@75hz is one of the supported display modes. Getting Windows 7 to allow this mode is a different story altogether it seems.
