Cooler for GTX 460

Post by thejamppa » Thu May 19, 2011 9:34 am

Hello everyone!

I have decided that I need to change cooler for my Evga SuperClocked GTX 460. Its not bad for stock cooler but... Not enough for me at this point. GTX 460 is pretty demanding card for cooler. I was doing some searches and found two candidates:

Prolimatech mk-13 + gtx 460 combo for 64€'s
Thermalright Shaman 58€'s. Both look good but Shaman is out of box compatible with GTX 460 and comes with 140mm Thermalright fan

Arcticooling Extreme VGA cooler would be 49€'s but no Vr-005 back plate for GTX 460 is available.

Does someone has some input either of coolers? Reviews from net have showed both being very capable coolers. What other coolers I might need to consider?

thanks in advance:
- Jani

Before thinking of buying a cooler, flash you GPU bios (check my review) and run the fan at lower speed with Msi Afterburner.
You will see that you wont have to change the cooler.

Yeah try it @ 30% and see how it sounds if you're not adverse to bios mod (it's pretty easy). Read bios in GPU-Z, mod in NiBiTor and flash with NVflash on usb stick.
My MSI 460 sounds pretty good @ 30% in my P182. Inaudible at even a 3 foot distance.
The cyclone is known for being fairly quiet though.
