On ASUS NVIDIA STRIX cards, only the "quiet" BIOS has the fan-stop capability; on their AMD 5700 XT STRIX OC, both BIOSes shut down the fan in idle, which is much better.

Gaming noise levels are massively improved over the AMD reference, now reaching parity with NVIDIA. If you want to go even quieter, the "quiet" BIOS delivers extremely impressive noise levels that rival even GeForce RTX custom designs.

On the second BIOS with the designation "Quiet BIOS", noise levels go as low as 32 dBA without touching clock speeds or power limits, which even rivals custom designs for the GeForce RTX and delivers the peaceful noise levels gamers are looking for today. Even in that mode, temperatures are still very reasonable with 82°C.

Thanks to the dual-BIOS feature, the card can run even quieter. On the second BIOS with the designation "Quiet BIOS", noise levels go as low as 32 dBA, which rivals even custom designs for the GeForce RTX and delivers the peaceful noise levels gamers are looking for today. Every other manufacturer who offers a quiet BIOS simply reduces the fan speed, which of course increases temperatures accordingly. Sapphire went beyond that as their second BIOS reduces the voltages and clocks slightly, which means temperatures are actually 1°C better than with the stock BIOS, and performance is a little bit lower (2-3 %). This approach actually enhances the features set of the quiet BIOS because it gives people more options. Personally, I'd take the small performance hit any day to enjoy lower noise levels. Sapphire is enabling fan stop for both the default BIOS and quiet mode, which is a smart decision, too.

Seems like a good option as well.

Gaming noise levels with the default BIOS are incredible, only 31 dBA is a monumental improvement over the AMD reference card, making the Red Devil quieter than the majority of NVIDIA RTX custom-design cards at the same time. Once you switch to the "Quiet BIOS", the Red Devil goes even quieter—whisper quiet, even when fully loaded—incredible. The second BIOS does run slightly lower voltage, clocks and power limit, which suggests it is properly fine-tuned for the capabilities of the cooler. I think this is the quietest AMD Radeon graphics card I ever tested, especially when you take its performance levels into account—good job PowerColor!

With 74°C in heavy gaming, temperatures are among the lowest of all RX 5700 XT cards we've reviewed so far. Noise levels are excellent, too, reaching only 31 dBA, which makes it the quietest RX 5700 XT card we've tested so far. But wait there's more. PowerColor has added a dual BIOS feature on their card, with the second BIOS labeled "silent". When I first saw this I thought "'silent'? yeah, maybe don't overdo it and just call it 'quiet'". Guess I was wrong. The silent BIOS is really silent, even at full load. We measured that setting to run at only 29 dBA which is a new record for AMD Radeon cards in TPU review. It's also just 1 dBA shy of the lowest noise levels we ever recorded for a high-end graphics card (MSI RTX 2070S Gaming X Trio @ 28 dBA). Very, very impressive, PowerColor! They achieved this feat by severely optimizing the silent BIOS for lower heat output. In that mode the card will run a few percent lower clocks and lower voltage, which reduces the heat generated by the graphics processor, which allows the cooler to run slower, without increasing temperatures too much. We measured 79°C, a 5°C increase over the default BIOS—definitely worth it if you want a low noise option.

Probably the quietest card from AMD, very impressive, even surpassing Asus Strix, its nice to see so many cards with dual bios / Quiet Bios implementations, hope we see more on Nvidia side.

Interesting - is the performance somewhere between a 1080 and a 1080ti? The power consumption seems to be about like a 1080ti, or so.

performance on average is closer to the 1080ti/2070s. power consumption is actually on par with the nvidia counterpart (the 2070 super), with the 5700 xt/2070s/2080 non-super all landing in the ~200-220W range. it does seem like most of the partner cards with the oc/performance bios mode will push this up a bit, though that's generally true for nvidia as well.

Techpowerup has a decent comparison of card efficiencies with their relative performance per watt charts at different gaming resolutions. From the same Powercolor review.

Not going to summarise each review since there's so many, but looks like there's quite a few more reviews in TPU's review database.

I know Gamers Nexus also has a few reviews for a handful of XT cards (in both written and video form), including a damning rebuke of XFX's THICC II.

yeah - haven't had the time to update all of the compilation pages...and new AMD cards on (I think) the 7th and then Super versions of the Nvidia 1650/1660 around the 20th.

Imo the Red Devil and Strix are the worty ones on AMD.
