Replacement Heatsink for Geforce 256 DDR

Post by jesterpb » Tue Oct 21, 2003 9:09 am

I've got my old Geforce 256 running on a file server in my closet and the video card fan has started to make a grinding sound. This happens every few months, and a couple drops o f 3-in-1 oil does the trick, but I 'm looking for a more permanent solution.

I'm looking for something:

* Cheap (who wants to spend more than necessary on a card that old)
* Easy to install (preferably using the existing mounting holes)

I'm willing to put up with a small amount of noise given the location of the system.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'd say you should be able to mount a northbridge heatsink from zalman onto your GeForce 256 DDR (looking at 4-8 USD). I'm quite sure that an original GeForce as in your situation should run relatively cool enough to do this.
