Sapphire Ultimate Edition Radeon 9600XT
Well, yesterday I finally managed to get my hands on a Sapphire Ultimate Edition Radeon 9600XT card - for some strange reason, the cards have been hard to get a hold of here in Canada. Apparently one of the local distributors only received five (!) of the cards.
I must say, I'm quite impressed with the card. Performance is right in line with the 9600XT reviews out there, the card comes with Tomb Raider: the Angel of Darkness and a card redeemable for a free copy of Half-Life 2.
As to the 'silence' of the card, it is fanless and therefore totally silent. The heatsink/heatpipe design is solidly attached to the card, and the card temperature (as read by the Catalyst drivers) is hovering around 50C most of the time, in a case that's about 28C or so. Not "cool" by any stretch, but certainly within tolerable limits.
If you're interested in getting one of these cards, I highly recommend them. They're especially nice if you don't want to void the warranty on another card, since they are fanless straight from the manufacturer.

Isn't the sapphire 9700 pro UE (for sure) or 9800XT UE (maybe) the most powerful passively cooled?PretzelB wrote:This card is on my list. I think it's the most powerful passively cooled (out of the box) card on the market.
I was a bit frustrated that this card is listing at near $200 on NewEgg but the price on some 9800's has dropped to near $230.
I'll be darned, you're right. I just found one here. I guess I never looked at the 9800s because it was beyond my budget.AzN jonzOrz wrote:Isn't the sapphire 9700 pro UE (for sure) or 9800XT UE (maybe) the most powerful passively cooled?PretzelB wrote:This card is on my list.
