Absolutely silent and ultra quiet machines - digitaltigers

Post by quksilver » Mon Mar 14, 2005 12:32 pm

Hey, does anyone have any experience with digitaltigers.com? They seem more well known for their multimonitor setups, but they have some interesting desktop computer systems as well. They claim their Stratosphere Edge is "absolutely silent" and the Stratosphere Z is "ultra quiet" but they don't seem to go into too many details. And it seems hard to believe considering the small size of the cases they're using. Maybe SPCR could get review samples??? :)

It looks like the Edge is fanless, so the biggest noise source is the hard drive... Which is silent when it's spun down (not idle).

I doubt it it's completely fanless. It may not have any extra case fans, but I'm sure the heat sink and power supply have fans. All the web page says is that the Pentium M requires little or no fan cooling. That doesn't mean there isn't a fan. More likely it means that the heat sink fan isn't running, or is running very slowly, when the computer is idle. The power supply fan is likely still running all the time.

Does no one have hands on experience with one of these systems?

Hey, I just got a response from my email. Looks like they'll consider submitting a sample for review!
Thanks for pointing this out –we love to see that people are talking about us J We’re currently making some system changes, particularly with the Z and the Edge systems that were mentioned in the forum. We are taking your suggestion under consideration to contact silentpcreview.com and have them review an upcoming platform we’re working on now to release. Keep in touch and let me know if you hear any other “buzz” about Digital Tigers! J

I'm surprised no one else mentioned it's just a de-badged Asus Pundit. I own a Pundit, and others have tested them as well. For someone who owns a conventional (read: loud) PC the Pundit is darn quiet. For someone who's serious about silent computing, the Pundit is definitely not a silent PC. In fact it's barely even enough to qualify as quiet by some folks measure. It's kind of in the in-between area where it's very much a matter of what you're used to.
