I just got a 24 inch white iMac from PC Connection for $1299 delivered:

It is a very quiet machine out of the box.
Just wondering if baseline noise level will be significantly increased if I get Parallels and then use it to virtual Windows XP Home with Mac OS X?
(above deal includes Leopord and Ilife 08 in box and everything is brand new)

No experience of using Macs myself, but I can't really see why the noise level would increase in any way running Parallels? It's not as if it changes the hardware in any way which is, of course, what makes the noise!

I was just thinking that baseline cpu utilization (of both cores) would be higher since two operating systems are working simultaneously.
I thought this might produce more heat, causing fans to spin faster, even at idle, and perhaps changing a very quiet machine into just an average performer?

Well I haven't used parallels either, but running another virtualization system only caused about 10% cpu load while running Windows XP.
