It's sad that a great cooling solution was nerfed by the choice of lesser performing fans.

I was going to switch my Asus 6850 DC for one of these but this review confirmed my reservations about the cooler. :(

Certainly. Do all dual-slot DC2 HSFs have this problem?

Can you get your hands on a GTX 660Ti / GTX 670 DirectCU II? They also have a dual-slot cooler.

Their implementation for the GTX 660 Ti and 670 is great for noise and Pd is in the same ballpark.

I was wondering the same and it seems likely as there is only so much space available. They seem to have chosen a thinner fan over a thinner heatsink.

Looking at the images on Asus' website as well as Newegg it seems all of their 7870, 7850, 660Ti and 660 variations share the same cooler.
