Multi-PC Silent Enclosure

(Originally posted in Newcomers Briefing room)

Hi all,

Wow, I've been reading about water cooling and silent systems all day on SPCR. I really want to tackle a homebrew watercooling/heatsink/fan hybrid system.

I'm pretty new to it all, but I'm a bit handy - so no fear!

I'm a composer and run 3 PCs. They need to be silent (or very near). I plan to build an enclosure to house all 3.

Planned Features:

- Watercooled PSUs
- Watercooled CPUs
- "Floating room" enclosure - total decoupling (soundproof room design)
- Car Rad (mounted flat like "_" not "I" - well...heat rises right?)
- Permanantly accessable optical drives
- Seperate HD enclosure (A few design ideas in mind....see below)
- Fans for everything else
- Filtered inlet and outlet fans
- Draw design for easy acces (as in chest of draws)

++ The 8 or 9 hard drive unit++

- Small Rad at back of HDs (linked to the watercooling system)
- 2 Fans at front pushing air across the HDs out to the Rad
- Housed (and decoupled) inside the main enclosure

Other Info:

- 3 P4 CPUs (Socket 478) 1x 3.2Ghz 2x 2.8Ghz or maybe 3Ghz
- Will be building Water Blocks from scratch (with no Mill machinary )

Questions:
(I'd appreciate any help - even just a link to a relevant discussion or webpage)

- How can I calculate how much water flow is needed?

- How can I test Safely?

- Will I be safe without "to the decimal point" calculations if I use a large Rad (i.e. 1.0 x 0.6 meter) with a decent Gallons per minute rate via a good solid pump?

- How do I make sure that all components get the correct amount of waterflow?

- How's that for my first post? (well, second, but they're same post)

Sorry, I don't have anything constructive to say about your project. Otherwise I would have done several hours ago in your other thread: Multi-PC silent enclosure

Sometimes questions are answered very fast on this board, sometimes it takes a day. Especially with a complex multi question post as yours is. Also your questions are mostly concerning watercooling and I think that is the least trafficed portion of this website.

Oh, and:

Sorry about that - won't happen again

Thanks for pointing me to watercooling - I'll certainly read that.

Any pointers from anyone else will also be very appreciated.

Thanks

hi, have you ever considered the acoustiock http://www.acoustilock.com/ studio rated cabinets (including their acl series) which are supposed to use their proprietary heat pipe system for air-to-air intercooling i believe? they have a movie demo here: http://www.acoustilock.com/demo.html

I had not considered this. Thanks for the link.

I'm pretty set on building it myself, but the acoustilock will no doubt provide some inspiration.

I will be DIYing the entire watercooling system.

As for the HDDs - I'll be making a plate that will stretch across 5 HDDs (i.e. 5 on top and 5 underneath).
