Video card for Dell 2005FPW monitor @ 1680 x 1050
Can anyone recommend a quiet and cool video card that can support the Dell 2005FPW @ 1680 x 1050 resolution? Or is their a mainboard with built-in support and DVI output? I don't play any games, but I do like pictures. My current ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon's info is here: http://www.ati.com/products/radeon/aiwradeon/specs.html and it does not look like it does very much in the DVI area. The card was state-of-the-art 3-years ago when I built my system. I suppose I could always continue to use my VGA cable, but no resolution is close to 1680 x 1050.
Also has anyone seen how this monitor displays text? I really don't care for LCDs, mainly because text always looks so jagged. This would be my first LCD.

who1zep,
1680 x 1050 is rather a strange resolution...
I have samsung 213t @ 1600x1200 running on a PNY nvidia quadro nvs 280agp via DVI. It's a wonderful card, FANLESS, can output to dual displays (i have a 17" crt next to my lcd) using a special cable. It also plays games such as age of mythology and doom3, but don't expect stellar gaming performance. I'm highly satisfied with this card, I suggest you look into this lineup...
You must go DVI with an LCD, it's a LOT better quality signal.

Yes, roo, it's a widescreen monitor, and the full model number is 2005FPW for widescreen. Your PNY card's specs state, "Maximum resolution of 2048 x 1536 @ 75MHz" without being more specific. I e-mailed PNY for more specifics. "Fanless" sounds great. After removing alot of the noise in my system, the little ATI fan is one of the biggest noise-makers in there.1680 x 1050 is rather a strange resolution...
Sadly I don't have one of those nice widescreen LCD's to try but all 'modern' (geforce 2 and up, ati 8500 and up) cards allow for 'custom resolutions' to be used perfectly well.. The little program that allows this is 'Powerstrip'

Perfect program! I used it to get 1400x1050 (normal ratio) on my 17'' CRT which is the highest 4:3 ratio resolution that still gets me 85hz refresh. But if I want 1600x800 it would work as well. It also has loads of interesting colour / overclock settings to mess about with.
I imagine this would work fine with LCD screens and assume the card and monitor are clever enough to not do any interpolating as it SHOULD understand that the gfx card and screen resolutions are 'the same'..
Edit: so any current fanless card with DVI like an FX5200 or Ati 9550 would work perfectly

Haven't heard from PNY, but ATI writes . . .
I haven't heard from PNY so I contacted ATI. They both use ATI chips. Here's ATI's reply:
However, compare that with what vancamp wrote at the First Adopter Forum:Regarding card for 4X AGP and 1680x1050:
ATI Radeon cards support these resolutions:
Standard VGA or DVI-I
640x480
800x600
1024x768
1152x864
1280x1024
1600x1200
1920x1080
1920x1200
1920x1440
2048x1536
Radeon 9500 series and higher support these HDTV Resolutions:
480i and 480p:
640x480 > 4:3
720x480 > 4:3
848x480 > 16:9
720p:
960x720 > 4:3
1280x720 > 16:9
1080i:
1920x1080 > 16:9
http://www.firstadopter.com/forums/show ... fafe&t=395I've used both 6600GT(AGP) and 9800Pro cards at 1680x1050, using DVI with no problems.
RADEON 9600 ??
Has anyone tried a RADEON 9600 card with the Dell 2005FPW monitor @ 1680 x 1050? Some other people have had luck with 9700/9800 after updating their drivers. The 9600 is alot cheaper, fanless and has similar supported-resolution specs as later model RADEONS.

I'm running a 2005FPW on a Radeon 9600 Non Pro. No problems whatsoever with the latest ATI Catalyst drivers.who1zep wrote:Has anyone tried a RADEON 9600 card with the Dell 2005FPW monitor @ 1680 x 1050?
