Upgrade to a 2.4 Intel

Post by frosty » Thu Jun 30, 2005 7:11 am

Greetings all:

Sorry I have so been out of the loop here. I have gotten a used Intel pc for almost nothing and going to move on it and mod it soon. Any ideas are appreciated.

Have not gotten the MB type yet, all I know is it is a 2.4 intel and I am going to cannibalize my amd 1700. It is a tall case so air should move nicely thru it.

Will migrate 9800 fanless vid card over to it.

Remove the WD noise hd and put in my sweet maxtor

Move all the ram into new 4 ram slots.

Replace the psu with my silent modded Mike 300 w psu
(Currently it has a 250 w in it)

Replace rear case fan with an 80L

Remove front case fan.

What has got me is the cpu fan has a complicated fan on it and I am
shy to replace it without knowing more about the MB and cpu.
I will use my hd so the OS will be win 98 for now.

Any ideas on the cpu fan if I can replace it with a less noisey one?

Wow I wrote down the mb numbers and my wife must have tossed the sheet out - oh duh! I was pleasntly surprised I have a cuda 7200 in their, should be soundless then!!! Woot! I will replace the rear fan which is a nidec with 80 L and the psu swap from Mike's Modded and just see how noisey she is after that. Does anyone know how much heat a 2.4 can stand - I plan to run all the temp programs for assurance.

The cpu fan is looking like a tiger, one of those molded intel fans around the hs - I guess I can't reuse my SLK800 on this MB.
