hi, can someone guestimate my power usage on this system which is my home fileserver

550 watt psu (proper)
amd athlon 1100 stk a
generic skt a cooler
onboard vga
512mb sd ram
5 *80mm case fans
1* western digital 80gb 7200rpm system disk
1* maxtor 160gb 7200rpm data disk
2*samsung 160gb 7200rpm spinpoint drive in raid0 on a generic(ite) ide card
4* seagate 160gb 7200rpm drives in raid 5
on a promise sx4000 pci hardware raid card with 256mb sdram

both the raid arrays are barely used but the system is on 24/7. is it possible to guess from that how much power is uses?

would a less powerfull power supply use less power?

I'd say that draws MAYBE around 160W, depending on your usage. However, I'd also be willing to wager that on boot, you draw close to 300W, if not more.

A less powerful PSU will not necessarily use less power, but may end up doing so anyways since a less powerful one typically has better efficiency at around 50-80% total power usage.
