I thought i was done with this place. Reserator, 5v L1A's, 2.5'' HDD...
but now my DVD drive is really killing me. ive given rivatuner a whirl to turn-down the drive speed, but im still frustrated. are those expensive drives on the silence-enthusiast retailers really worth the dough? am i out of luck? am i being too picky?

Heh. You've caught a case of "SilentPC-itis". It's been fairly well documented on these forums over the past years.
Read/search the Silent Storage Forums for info on quiet optical drives. You should come up with several good candidates.

Personally, I'd ignore it. There's almost no context where you can't rip whatever is on the disk to the hard drive.
