Silent Video Card PciE

Post by Ekner » Fri Apr 21, 2006 12:09 pm

Hi there ,
have been looking on forums all around but can't get a definite answer ... which video card would be the better choice in prestation AND silence NVidia 7900GT or ATI 1800XT / 1900XT seeing that (at least in The Netherlands) prices are about the same (approx. 300-350 euro)

thanks

(on a new MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum)

"Prestation" did you mean performance?

The 7900GT will be easier to silence because it is not as hot as the 1800XT and 1900XT. You can cool it with the Zalman VF700 or VF900.

Assuming my memory holds correct the Radeon 1900XT draws 135W at max power and the 7900GT draws 90W. Makes the 7900GT much easier to quiet. Performance is almost equal so I would choose the 7900GT.

The difference in max power draw are even bigger than that; 110W for the 1900XT and 50W for the 7900GT.

@stupid ... yup meant performance

Hmm ok .. so i guess the the 7900 GT would be a better choice performance and silence- wise , even though i see a lot of people posting that the ATI's would be better "future-prepared"?

Arctic Cooling is making a passive cooler for the 7900gt that should be out in June, so I would go with a 7900gt since it will be much easier to cool it passively.
