Automatic fan controllers that can switch of fans

Post by zokka » Tue Nov 28, 2006 8:47 am

I’m in the market for a new fan controller. I really want it be able to switch of fans. However I would like it to be automatic.

However I can’t seem to find anything apart from some manual solutions, like the sunbeam and zalman.

Lots of Automatic fan controllers seem a bit conservative with their settings so I want to be able to set my own temp settings for when the fan should go faster.

Be able to detect low fan speed and not issue annoying warnings like with 120 mm fans.

I really like the idea of being able to switch of fans if only to help identify what creates most noise etc.

Can anyone recommend me a fan controller fitting these criteria?

Thanks for any help.

Did you consider to have your fans controlled by software?

I bought a sunbeam controller and now I find myself using only automatic control with speedfan. It has its drawbacks, as PWM control makes some fans click a bit. Just select properly the fans in your system.

There is also a problem if your motherboard doesn't support PWM in the fan connectors or if you are using linux then I don't know of an alternative to speedfan.

You could try deliberately using fans that stall easily?
You may get lots of failure warnings though :?

What motherboard do you have? Maybe it is only a problem with the configuration of speedfan. If you give us some more details we will try to help you before you buy a controller.

The mCubed t-Balancer is exactly what you want. The only issue is the cost. They offer hardware control (can go all the way off 0-12V) with software configuration.

Hey, I have the same motherboard!!
Speedfan works with this motherboard. You can control CPU_FAN and CHA_FAN with speedfan. You just have to do this:

Go to Configure --> Advanced and in the chip list select IT8712F. Set all PWM modes to "software controlled". If you want to get Asus Q-Fan still control the chipset fan then en PWM 3 mode to smartguardian.

Believe me, it works and it is the easiest and cheapest way. :D
