Which psu - Seasonic S12 550+ or Corsair HX 520W?

Post by noneedforaname » Mon Dec 25, 2006 12:56 am

I'm building a new computer and need some advice on what psu I should get.

Is there a noticable difference in noise-level between the above mentioned psu's?
I'd say that noise-level is the most important aspect in this matter, but feel free to comment on other aspects as well. (Modular cables, for example; are they such a big deal?)

Thanks.

Thanks for the link.

So, according to the SPCR tests, there should be a 1dB difference at idle (Seasonic slightly better than Corsair). Too bad I don't have access to a computer where I can compare the sound recordings right now.

Can someone comment on whether that 1dB would be noticable in a system with 3 low-speed 120mm fans? The reason I'm asking is that the Seasonic is quite pricy compared to the Corsair psu, so if the Corsair is enough, I'd be quite happy.

Almost certainly not. 1dB is at the threshold of detection anyway.

Hello,

You might want to listen to the recordings of the units in operation -- often there is a qualitative difference that doesn't show up in the measurement -- and you will prefer the sound of one unit over the other.
