Which fans to add to this system?

Post by joe123 » Sat Sep 29, 2007 10:01 pm

Hi there,
I'm looking for fans to cool my new pc. I've got all the parts, heatstinks ect. but am not sure which fans to get. Heres a list of components:

Case: Antec P150
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35
CPU:Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
RAM: 2GB DDR2-800
GPU: Asus 8800GTS
PSU: Seasonic S12+ 550W

Heatsinks:

CPU: Thermalright XP-120
GPU: Thermalright HR-03 Plus

I'll get some nexus fans for the case, but what do you think about the heatsinks? Would a Scythe S-FLEX be better for the CPU? I'd say a Nexus Real Silent 92mm Case Fan would work alright with the Asus 8800GTS? Regards, Joe

i would slap on a yate loon D12SL-12 to the CPU heatsink, and use the nexus 92mm for the HR-03

please be aware tha tthe 8800GTS does NOT fit the p150 case, you need to remove a small metal part. Search the board.

The 8800GTS will fit according to this thread:

Your probably thinking about the GTX :) .

I can't get yate loon fans cause im in Australia. So its either a Nexus or Scythe for the CPU. I'm leaning towards the Scythe S-Flex Meduim speed, as it seems to be more reliable and if need be can blow more air. Your thoughts?

NO YATE LOONS?! DEAR GOD! :( haha, just kidding

nexus: better noise quality, smoother, overall quieter frequency....but it does have relatively weak airflow for a 120mm, and its expensive.

scythe: a little more risk since some of the s-flexes used to have quality issues about ticking noises, but they do general have better airflow and are cheaper than nexus's.

I would get a scythe unless you want a really quiet computer...but otherwise, i think the scythe is probably a better deal (hope you don't get a lemon)

Where i come from Scythe and Nexus fans cost the same, so money is not an issue. Decisions decisions.... hmm. Ralf's computer has an XP-120 with a nexus fan, but his CPU is an Intel 3.4 Prescott? CPU. So, does a E6850 run hotter than a Pentuim 4 3.4 GHz Prescott?
