XP Pro, you can forget about it.
It might just be possible with a customised XP Embedded image, but I don't know how.
If you want to boot XP from flash, you could use one of these:
- A real SSD with a SATA or IDE interface (a litttle thin on the ground where I live)
- A CompactFlash module with a CompactFlash to IDE or SATA adapter

This is not precisely booting XP, but take a look here:
http://www.ubcd4win.com/
With that, you use your XP image to make a bootable recovery CD. With the newer versions, you can put that image onto a usb flash drive. Take a look at their forums in the USB Booting Support area.

Any chance of a link to a how to: I looked into this a few times and it wasnt anything like as easy as it should have been - Linux is so easy a child could do it.DaveLessnau wrote:This is not precisely booting XP, but take a look here:

As far a Embedded XP is concerned, I looked into and played around with that on and off for a week and gave up. Its not impossible, but its quicker and easier to use Bart PE (as quoted above)

I've built the UBCD4Win several times on CD/DVD without problem. Never on USB, though.andyb wrote:Any chance of a link to a how to: I looked into this a few times and it wasnt anything like as easy as it should have been
Here's a link to their How to Build the Ultimate Boot CD for Windows FAQ and here are a few links to threads about getting the build onto a USB flash drive:
- Utility to copy your ubcd4win to a usb-stick/drive (greek to me)
- HOWTO: Installing UBCD4Win to a Flash Drive, Includes a boot menu
- How To: Boot BartPE from a FAT32 formatted USB drive (Easy)
