Antec ISK 300 + Zotec IonITX-D-E Build Help

Post by elendil850 » Fri Jun 19, 2009 8:54 pm

This is my first time building an ITX/low power system.

I'm thinking of combining the following parts, but don't know if they will be compatible:

Antec ISK 300 Case (65W PSU)
Zotec IonITX-D-E (Nvidia Ion w/ Atom E330 CPU)
Crucial Ballistix 4GB (2 x 2GB) BL2KIT25664AA80A [might be a bit overkill?]
OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX30G 2.5" 30GB
Seagate Momentus 7200.3 ST9320421AS 320GB 7200 RPM 2.5" SATA (Not 100% about including this, I'm heavily considering adding a system as a dedicated media server to my network, which I've never done before either)
Sony Optiarc Slim 8X DVD±R Burner Black SATA Model AD-7590S-01
2x Scythe KAMA FLEX SA0825FDB12SL (I believe Mike said in his review of the IonITX board that it DOES NOT support onboard fan control. Should I get a fanmate or some other method of undervolting for these fans, or should they be fine running at stock speeds?)

What I really want to know is if these components will be able to fit under the requirments of the ISK 300 PSU (65W), or whether I need to change to the Zotec board with the included PSU (95W if memory serves me right). PicoPSU is an option, though I've never used one of them before.

Give me your input!

Thanks!
:D

At first, I'd rather get a combination of Zotac 8200 ITX board and AMD 4850e/5050e or a combination of Zotac 9300 ITX and Intel E5200 instead of nVIDIA ION platform. Though you sacrifice a bit more power, you'd gain a great deal of performance compared to ATOM . Furthermore, 90W DC power is far more enough for two systems that I recommended before. Therefore, I guess PicoPSU is friendlier and more flexible under your circumstance as Pico carries a normal 24pin ATX plug.

I have the Zotac Ion with the Intel Atom N230 in the Antec ISK 300-65 and it works great. The atom 330 is only 4 watts more than the N230. I would say that the PSU would probably be fine for your setup although there is nothing wrong with having a little headroom by getting the 90 watt power brick.

I also got 2x2gb of ram and don't regret it. The stuff is cheap anyways.

The 65W PSU with the case should be fine for running the system you put together. I have the 2000 RPM 80mm Kama FLEX fan (was going to use it as a swap into my PSU in HTPC but it's starting voltage was too high) and it's at least as loud as an S-Flex @ 1000-1200 RPMS at 12V, so I'd highly recommend a FanMate. Also, assuming that the HDD is just for storage, you may as well get a 5400RPM drive and save a few bucks and maybe a few dB, unless you really need the extra throughput.

Good point on the HD. I'm not 100% certain that I'm going to add in the 2nd hard drive. Especially if I build the server computer, but a 5400RPM drive would be a better idea, especially from the noise standpoint.

I think the fans I picked are the 1500 RPM ones. I'll probably steal a FanMate from my HTPC and see if it makes a noticeable difference.
